Learn to dance in a fun and friendly environment, gain from teachers who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the dance world and make friends for life along the way. We are delighted to announce that Larissa King, a former student of the school, has been offered a contract to dance on the Costa Serena Cruise Ship in Shanghai.

The Mavis Berry & Helen Allen School of Dance provides an excellent standard of dance classes and classical training for children aged three and above. The dance school, based at The United Reformed Church in Leyland, is renowned within the area for its great reputation and has been established since 1953.
We have an experienced pianist for most of the Ballet Classes on Saturday morning and also for the Classical Greek classes. Based in Leyland, the school offers two large rooms for dance practice and provides two adequate changing rooms. There is ample room for students to work and relax and on Saturday's there is a caf managed by the church which provides refreshments for parents and pupils.
Ballet is the main genre of dance at our school and we have been fully registered teachers with the British Ballet Organization since the school was opened in the 1950's. All our pupils take yearly exams in ballet and we pride ourselves in gaining a 100% pass rate over many years.
Some of our pupils have gained ballet scholarships with the British Ballet Organization and many have progressed to vocational level and have made a career from their training with us.As teachers we feel that ballet gives every pupil a solid foundation for all other types of dance and the ballet discipline improves many aspects of performance such as confidence, posture and listening skills.

All our modern theatre teachers have been trained by the I.S.T.D and anyone aiming for a career in dance will leave us with their Grade 6 Modern or above. We also teach modern free work classes so that the children learn something different every week and this then helps them with the future audition process.
The tap that we teach is also with the I.S.T.D, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. Tap is an excellent form of exercise for anyone who can't keep their feet still! Exams are usually yearly but this can depend on the progress of the children. Tap is great for improving listening skills, it's a lively fun activity and teaches the children rhythm, balance, style and how to perform as well as dance.
