All our children are encouraged to fulfil their potential in a happy, safe and nurturing environment. We express our Christian Values in a sensitive way while, at the same time, welcoming families of different faiths and beliefs. Children at Shire Oak recognise their responsibilities towards each other, the local community and the wider world.
Our aim is for all children to make the best possible progress through high quality teaching and learning. We provide all children with a broad and balanced education that meets their particular needs. The school works closely with parents/carers; we recognise that children are more likely to fulfil their potential when we work together.

Services
We've had a great half term and the children have really enjoyed being back at school. Thank you for all of your support through the period of remote learning, it was great to see the photos and videos of the children on Tapestry. After the Easter break, we will hopefully have better weather. As the weather improves, please ensure your child has a water bottle in school.
We are really looking forward to the Summer term ahead and we hope you had a lovely Easter break. Our topic Our topic this term is 'Buckets and Spades'. We will learn about the geographical features of seaside places and make comparisons between a seaside town and Headingley.
We will also use simple compass directions and continue to identify on globes, maps and atlases the countries of the United Kingdom, their capital cities and seas surrounding the UK, in our ongoing geography work.We will bring some history into the topic by looking at what seaside holidays were like in the past.

At Shire Oak, we encourage creative, project-based homework to allow children to explore wider aspects of a topic and follow their own interests and ideas. We will be identifying the physical (natural) features and human (man-made) features of a seaside resort and drawing our own maps to show what we discover.
Our topic this term is 'Extreme Earth'. This is predominately a Geography and Science based topic. We will be investigating various aspects of our Earth including looking at natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. We will be studying what the Earth is made of and how volcanoes and earthquakes happen, as well as linking this to History by looking at some famous volcanoes and earthquakes from the past.
Welcome to our final (and hopefully uninterrupted!) term in Year 4. After such an unusual year for the children our focus in class will be on well-being, developing motor skills and developing social skills alongside academic learning. We will continue to take our learning outdoors as much as possible, making the most of the school grounds and local green spaces.
