Services
Counselling is commonly referred to as a 'Talking Therapy', however, it is probably as accurate to call it a 'Listening Therapy'. Whilst the person receiving the therapy (the 'client') does most of the talking, it is the experience of being actively listened to, in a supportive and non-judgemental manner, that creates an environment for deeper understanding of self.
Counselling is suitable for most people, regardless of their age, race, culture, gender and previous counselling experiences. Counselling is first and foremost about you and how you are in your own world. New Dawn Counselling uses a step by step approach to encourage and enable the individual to investigate and explore how they feel and where those thoughts and feelings come from.
Life coaching differs from counselling in several ways. The most apparent is that coaching has different boundaries to counselling. A typical counsellor/ client relationship would mean that the roles were very firm and structured, that the counsellor offers little to nothing in the way of self disclosure, advice or support and contact is rare outside of the 50 minute weekly sessions.
Counselling provides a safe non judgemental space for a person, couple or group to discuss and explore their issues. Counselling is not a 'magic wand' and is not about 'fixing' a person, it is about giving an individual a safe place to develop their understanding of self and empower them to make changes where they desire.
