To ride a motorcycle on the road in this country you must first complete a CBT training course. A CBT is a course of training covering all aspects of motorcycling and usually lasts for 1 day. The course begins at 8.30am and starts with a discussion. As from 1st Febuary 2001, any person wishing to undertake a practical motorcycle test (excluding CBT) must first pass the DSA Theory Test.

The test, (undertaken at a DSA Theory Test Centre) consists of 35 multiple choice questions relating to. When you reach the grand old age of 21, you can learn to ride a motorcycle on a larger machine, (500cc or above) this licence will give you full entitlement to ride which ever bike you want ie: Fireblade, Hayabusa, Harley Davison, etc.

As from 1st Febuary 2001, any person wishing to undertake a practical motorcycle test (excluding CBT) must first pass the DSA Theory Test. The test, (undertaken at a DSA Theory Test Centre) consists of 35 multiple choice questions relating to general riding and Highway Code and is then followed by a Hazard Perception Test which is a video sequence where you must highlight hazards in the clips.
16 year olds are limited up to 50cc only (L plates, no passengers, no motoways) you can only take your test on a moped, and when you pass you are awarded a moped full license status. Upon passing the A1 you will get a full licence to ride on motorways and take pillion passengers, but you will never be able to ride anything bigger than a 125cc machine that produces a maximum of 11 kW (15 Bhp).
If you are aged between 19 and 24 this will be your 2nd option, the 1st would be the A1 if you just want to ride a 125 and carry passengers. If you have not already passed the A1 test then you must first take and complete a CBT course and the motorcycle theory test. The test and training must be taken on a machine of a minimum engine size of 395cc that produces a maximum of 35 Kwh (47 Bhp).
