The Five Horseshoes is a lovely 16th Century country pub with brass, wrought iron, beams, log fires, with fine ales and excellent wines, a large conservatory restaurant area and two snug bar areas. Our speciality is taking traditional English dishes and giving them a modern twist to intensify the flavours and textures to produce a delightful dining experience.
We strive to make our food really interesting, beautiful to look at and tasty. Our garden and the restaurant area provide breathtaking views over the surrounding Chilterns, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Services
Our objective is to offer a really great pub dining experience. This means, fresh, local produce, cooked to order and well presented, not too fiddly, with good portions. Modern in style, with lots of small plates, and a wide ranging mix of styles, our menu changes regularly. Almost everything is made in house from base ingredients.

Fantastic food in a very cosy, friendly pub that has a great variety of beer available. A lovely log fire and great views from some of the tables.
Slightly slow service but can be forgiven as there didn't seem to be a lot of staff on and the pub was busy (people were sat outside, even in the rain, just to get a seat!)
Would really recommend for a cosy, proper pub food place with great beer and friendly staff who do their best for the customers

I love the location and atmosphere of this pub. But a Ploughmans for £12 is steep, and when it only consists of 2 smallish lumps of cheese and a small wedge of pork pie, then it's not value at all IMO. No salad of any description (they described it as 'traditional' which I guess is a justification to that point), and I had to ask for more bread as it was too small slithers.
Take a look at my review of the Bell Inn at Aldsworth to see how a Ploughamns shoukld be done (and for 2/3 the price)

When we visited the Five Horseshoes my expectations were high. The Five Horseshoes is a lovely old pub and the approach is stunning. Unfortunately the food did not deserve such praise. To begin I ordered a ‘large plate’ which was braised lamb pie with carrots, peas and gravy. It was a generous portion but the standard of the food was very low. The meat in the pie which was allegedly braised was tough, I would not have guessed it was lamb, I could not taste lamb at all. It was probably partly due to the very salty gravy. I could not eat it. After this, I chose ice cream which again was very disappointing

They managed to squeeze us in for Sunday lunch at our favourite spot by the fire for a birthday celebration. There was so much choice on the menu we opted for a delicious range of starters instead of mains.… Looking festive, lovely and cosy by the warm fire and candle light on every table. We managed to squeeze in a shared sticky toffee pudding - delicious! Our little piece of heaven… 👩❤️💋👨
