Lancasters Bakery
The bakery was founded in 1906 by Harry Lancaster, the grandfather of the present owners, who, after being unable to find work in the printing industry in Scarborough, walked to Harrogate and found a position in a small bakery near to our current spot on Cold Bath Road. There he met and married his wife Alice and decided to open his own bakery, moving to the present site in 1919.

After raising a family of five who all worked in the business, it was taken over by his two sons, Jack and Geoffrey, on his death in 1950. The daughter of Geoffrey and her husband, Mary and John, took over the business in 1983 and since then they have built up the customer base, re-equipped and modernised the bakery, while at the same time, endeavouring to maintain the traditional standard of a craft bakery.
Services
We pride ourselves on using traditional methods, with the accent on hand moulding and baking of products. We bake freshly every morning for same day delivery to the Harrogate District and source most of our raw ingredients as locally as possible. We still make our own sausage rolls, meat pies, pizzas and quiches, using top quality meat from an excellent butcher in Bradford.

Harrogate institution on Cold Bath Road now over 110 years old Lancasters is a great place to drop by early in the morning. Sells everything from the classics (pies, sausage rolls, vanilla slices) to group orders (sandwiches) and seasonal specials (mince pies at Christmas for 75p).
Our family have been coming here since the 1930s.

Poor experience... arrived at 11.01am exactly to be told that hot sandwiches were only available until 11am and there was no possibility of making a bacon sandwich... a shabby approach to customer service which has more in common with nationalized utility companies... avoid

Good bakery spoiled by poor customer service and old fashioned presentation. It's also a tiny (outside) cafe/takeaway: no cooked food. Parking is problematic. Fresh bread isn't the best: try the co-op instead.

This is the traditional bakery that I would go to with my mother in the early 1970s for our weekly bread and it is still going strong and doing a great job. They have good croissants made daily and the full range off traditional and modern British bakery.
Hot food, sandwiches and coffee round out the selection. Staff have always been excellent friendly and helpful to me.

Very friendly staff and fantastic, fresh products. I'm always bummed when someone was quicker and there are no sweet chilli pork pies left, but I guess folks just know what's good.... Would highly recommend, always happy to buy here!
