We are known for our unique ciabatta and focaccia sandwiches, specialising in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours. Situated in a Victorian building on Woodhouse Lane, we are opposite the Parkinson Building of the University of Leeds under a big red canopy. You can't miss our red faade and neon; we have been serving the people of Leeds with sandwiches and coffee from here since 1994.
We specialise in ciabatta and focaccia sandwiches. Our range of fillings is vast, and we have a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan fillings. We use seasonal produce from local suppliers wherever possible. Our craft is handmade ciabatta and focaccia bread, which we make every night in our bakery.

Services
Every evening we hand mix and hand shape our ciabatta and focaccia dough, to make all the bread that will be used the next day. It's baked overnight so it's fresh first thing for our sandwich production. The recipe for our bread, which was first developed back in 1994, is simple, and designed primarily for one thing - to compliment a filling to make a great sandwich.
For a quick coffee to take away with your sandwich or to start your day, 164 Woodhouse Lane is the place. Here we cater for straightforward tastes, so expect a dark roasted, traditional Italian coffee, made quickly and efficiently. Attention to detail in the brewing process is at the heart of our coffee operation at Munro House.
164 can be found on Woodhouse Lane, in Munro House on Duke Street for sit-in and speciality coffee, and at our newest site in Headingley. A busy location, the emphasis here is on maintaining the vast selection of sandwiches and quick, efficient service. You can't miss us, the distinctive red shopfront and awning set the shop apart from the rest of the parade.

BEST SANDWICHES EVER IN THE WORLD. One of the best thing around Leeds Uni. Any, anything from them are just amazing. It is so fulfilling and tasty. Good selection with cheap price (considering the portion!!). You can easily be amazed and satisfied by their sandwiches. During the peak time there are so many students. If you go later in the day basically there is nothing left!! Fresh bakery every day! OMG I will love their sandwiches forever.

Visited Leeds for the first time and my girlfriend was excited to take me to the sandwich place she loved and frequented as a student. To anyone passing by you would not necessarily know, especially as it was not crazy busy when we went, but she assured me many days there would be a line out the door as the establishment is so popular with locals. It is small but filled with a wide variety of sandwiches and baked goods- I opted for a focaccia sandwich with prosciutto, basil, tomato, mozzarella, pesto and had it toasted at my girlfriend's insistence! All the bread is baked fresh daily. I&apos

Back in 07-08 when I was going to school across the street, I'd often frequent this place for a cheap lunch. I remember paying somewhere around 3 quid for a decent sized chicken sandwich on focaccia bread. Out of the (usually) bland food options in the UK, this sandwich was actually really good and flavorful, as well as cheap! I often miss this place and from the looks of it, it still has a strong following :)

You can certainly see why there's a buzz at Bakery 164, which I presume gets it's funky name from the street number, as I popped in here one lunch time to find not only large queues but an array of delicious looking lunch time offerings. Even as I browsed extra goodies were being laid out by a happy member of staff, so there are certainly a number of options in this lovely shop.
On this occasion I was merely in it for the sweet stuff, and boy - there's a choice! I wanted a rocky road and there was even a choice to be had in this arena, from white chocolate to milk. I opted for the

Though it wasn't the kind of place I could really afford to buy a sandwich from daily whilst a student, I am a big fan of Bakery 164.
They make fresh, gourmet sandwiches on Italian breads. They do try and say on their website that their philosophy is to make beautiful sandwiches that are reasonably priced, and whilst, by London prices, this is true, they are still a little steep for their student demographic.
Having said that, I would literally kill for one of their bacon, brie, onion marmalade, lettuce and tomato sandwiches right now. They also sell crayfish and rocket sandwiches, and a

It's a mark of how far our great education system's come that where twenty years ago students would have counted themselves lucky to get two cans of cold baked beans to rub together, now they perch smugly outside places like this tucking into bagels spread with olive tapenade. No wonder everyone hates them. If you can stomach the sort of conversation that comes from students who can afford to pay a fiver for lunch every day, there is undeniably plenty to enjoy in this sandwich shop, with lots of different breads baked on the premises and a range of Mediterranean ingredients as well as

One of the more upmarket eateries by the university, Bakery 164 is a gourmet sandwich joint popular with the people who work in the area and students with too much cash.
They do gloriously tasty sandwiches on fresh soft bread - try the meatball - as well as other lunchtime snacks and deserts of a similarly high standard.
But, be warned, you have to pay for quality in this place. I used to go once a week while at college nearby as a rare treat, and spend the other four days at the cheaper, less fancy Highway.
P.S. Lovely coffee!

Possibly the most excitingly gourmet sandwich place when you're close to the university. The Swedish meatball sandwich on bread I've never even heard of tastes like an explosion of quality in your mouth. Outrageously filling, you'll have to pay around £2.50 for these bad boys, but if you're a) a gourmand or b) have just finished an exam or something and need to celebrate, then Bakery 164 is for you! They also make amazing lattes for £1.20 that are heated to below that heavy scalding level that make you want to cry and drink your coffee at the same time. It's always packed
