When you're done, park the car in the same location you picked it up from, then end the trip with the app. First, sign up for membership. Most members are approved instantly and can book their first daily or hourly car rental within minutes but in some cases, it may take a little longer to check your driving record.
As soon as you're approved, you can book a Zipcar near you and use our car rental app to unlock and lock during your trip. We'll also mail you a Zipcard-an access card to any Zipcar vehicle you reserve. It arrives in 5-7 business days. Until it does, it's better to book cars and trips in places where your phone has service.

Use Zipcar as an alternative to the costs and hassles of owning or renting a car through our network of shared on demand vehicles. Car sharing is kind of like car rental, but way better. With Zipcar, you can book cars on demand by the hour or day to go where you want, when you want. Zipcar covers gas, insurance options, * parking and maintenance for a potential monthly savings of $600 over car ownership.
Book Zipcars for meetings, deliveries, and other business needs-think company cars, on-demand. You can add and remove drivers to your business account, and you must approve all new drivers before they can join your account. Account administrators also have access to all trip data. Zipcar for Business membership costs $99 a year per driver.
Visit Uber's Vehicle Marketplace and select Zipcar as your vehicle option. Zipcars can be reserved by the hour. Uber Eats drivers who haven't rented with Zipcar before are eligible for special rental rates. Gas, 24/7 roadside assistance, and up to 180 miles per day are included. MY LAST INTERACTION....SUSPENDED ACCOUNT. Now, I have been a member of the Zipcar community since 2014 and for the most part (outside of other members leaving dirty cars [spills, smoke, pet hair], I've had great experiences. This time, (December 18th), I was Emceeing a birthday gala for a 95 year old. I scheduled my reservation four days in advance for 4pm until 11pm. I arrived at 4:22 as the previous user was just returning the car, with no sense of concern that he was on my time or what I may have had to use the vehicle for. I told him he had my car, without even rolling down the window

Stay away- they try to extort you and blame you when they mess up. Here's my tale of woe:
2 night ago, I had rented a zipcar to check on a former colleague of mine who was sick and lives in an unsafe neighborhood with frequent criminal activity. Here's what happened:
Botched tech with reservation extension:
· I sent a text as directed to extend my zipcar for 30 minutes past the initial reservation time of 9-10 pm to 10:30 pm. When I went to open the zipcar at approximately 10:15 pm, it would not unlock.
· I called zipcar customer service.
· I was told that my reservation had ended

This was my first and last experience with Zipcar. Not only did they change my pickup location last minute (paid extra for an Uber instead of my plan to walk to pickup location), they gave me the most vile and disgusting car. The car smelled like someone had been smoking in there for years. There was animal hair everywhere ( great experience since I'm allergic) and there was food and drink spills everywhere. I don't know the last time the car was clean. Also grossly over priced! $200 for a 1-1/2 day! Top it off there was no gas in the car which made me late!

Do not use Zipcar, other services like Free2Move are much less expensive and easier to use. Zipcar is a huge rip off. I had a single car, property damage only accident and even though I had purchased the premium insurance package my privileges were suspended while they investigate the claim. Four months later the "investigation" continues and Zipcar will not allow me to cancel my membership. So they are charging me but I can't use any cars. I switched to Free2Move where you only get charged when you use a car, no membership fees.

What a rip off. Had not used my account in years -- didn't even know that it was still being charged -- until I got a notification a month after they tried to charge my card and it was declined (I had cancelled that credit card). They would not let me cancel until I paid for another year, threatening to send me to a collection agency. So I gave them a new cc, and cancelled... and they said "sorry to see you go, your membership will expire in a year."
No offer to pro-rate the membership, and no way to contact customer service.
These people are criminals -- avoid them.

Never again will I use Zipcar in my entire life. This service has been the worst experience ever. First, the membership service has all these additional unnecessary fees that add up. Second, no where in any email or app disclaimer did it mention that this car SOLELY works on WiFi or a super internet service; keys are permanently attached to the ignition and locking & starting the car works only thru the app. We drove the car up to a hiking trail. Once we got back to the car, our "lack" of signal didn't let us unlock the car. We had enough service to go on any other internet app

Thieves. They automatically charge you $70 every year for another year of membership, without telling you if they need updated information before they'll rent you a car. Then when you try to book a car, they'll either 'have no record of your reservation' or display an hard-to-notice, uninformative error message, like "Oops, something went wrong" that do not actually tell you why they are not allowing you to rent a car. The upshot is that they have no motivation to fix such 'technical errors' because charging membership fees without allowing members to rent

Zipcar will let you down. I was a member for seven months and twice they changed or outright cancelled my reservation without any notice. The second time was one of the most important days of my life as I was helping my son with his wedding. Without letting me know, Zipcar cancelled the car, then sent me 3 miles away to another car that didn't start. After being on hold for fifteen minutes, they offered me another car nearly 30 miles away! At this point I was very late and extremely stressed. I sent emails to Zipcar afterward requesting a response but was ignored.

Had a 3 hr conversation with a supervisor who was unable to exercise their best professional judgement. Only provided options that were at my financial expense in the middle of a snowstorm. Increase the training component so it reflects a uniform message. Provide better support and allow CSR Supervisor more authoritization vs escalating to a higher level of support in which there's no immediate response and offers no short term seamless solution.

Worst car sharing company in the world. They over charge you for rentals. They also falsely charged me several times for tolls of which I did not even know where the places were. And also falsely accused me of speeding tickets when I didn't have the cars at those times. They took $569.00 dollars out my account. Which in turned totally screwed my bank account up. BE AWARE THEY WILL SNATCH MONEY OUT YOUR ACCT. WITHOUT NOTIFICATION.

When the process works as advertised from beginning to end it's smooth sailing. When something goes wrong, it's an absolute nightmare.
Pros:
* the cars are usually modern and nice
* as long as you book ahead you can typically find a car nearby (I'm in NYC)
* can be super convenient; all cars come with EZ Pass and gas is included
That's the good. But the bad is that reservations can (and will) be cancelled with no warning at the last minute. This has happened to me twice in the past month; the first time, car was cancelled 5 days before the reservation and the second time, car

DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY!
I swore I'd never use them again, but decided to give them a second chance. I'm so sorry I did.
They'll hit you with late fees without any avenue for dispute. I paid a full day rate for a car over the weekend and due to a mishap, got it back late (and was too late to extend) and received $150 late fee!!! That's more than the whole day rate was. So you pay the full day rate, but you don't get the car for the full day.
@zipcar is literally the worst car share business I have ever come across. All they care about is the $$$$$. Never again

TLDR: NEVER use this company EVER!!! HORRIBLE customer services.
Today I attempted to rent a car to do some errands. When parked in an underground parking garage, I experienced connectivity issues to the vehicle. Although I could text, call and use all other applications on my phone, ZipCar claimed I did not have the service to unlock my car.
Let me just say this was the worst customer service I have EVER experienced in my entire life. I wish I could give this company minus stars. I have never been more frustrated and angry. I spent approximately 4 hours total on and off hold with representatives

I used zipcar regularly the past few months. Recently an agent contacted me 3 days after my trip insisting that I did not return the car; essentially accusing me of stealing the car. I subsequently returned to the car location in person and the car was there. I never received any follow up to clear things out nor an apology.

This company is garbage. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a rental company. Here's the story: I sign up for the $70 membership plan, get approved, reserve a car for 3 days, and take a $25 Lyft to get to my car. Once I get there, I discover the right low beam light is busted out. No worries though. I pull up the app and hit the unlock button. The car won't unlock. I have great cellular reception. Restart my phone, etc. It still won't unlock. After waiting over 1 hour - to no avail - on the phone to speak with someone from Zipcar (mind you, I'm just

@Zipcar By far the worst service ever! Call center is offline, no returned phone call in 20 hours, no response to in-app reporting, no response via email. Car I paid for NOT at its pick up point, can not get refund or replacement car since no one is available to answer phones, and a huge inconvenience to my day. Never again. This is not the first time this has happened. #RefundMyCoins
