North Mill Stoves had a very humble beginning when Ian Pearce started to offer wood burning stove installations from the back of his Renault Espace back in the late 1980's. As a trained and qualified engineer and cabinet maker Ian Pearce was able to undertake structural remodels of existing fireplaces.
By 2022 all wood-burning stoves manufactured and sold in the UK must adhere to a strict European directive on air pollution and particulate emissions known as Eco Design Ready. Many homes have fireplace with features that reflect a different era of taste and design and may not reflect the current design aesthetics, as customer tastes have evolved over the years.
Although many homes have fireplace, the features often reflect a different era of taste whereas customer aesthetic & design tastes have evolved over the years. We routinely undertake remodel of existing fireplaces in two situations. Either when customers have inherited a wood burning stove on purchase of a home which is not to their aesthetic design taste and/or have simply outgrown an earlier fireplace setting including the stove.
The last few years have seen a move towards a more open-plan living with garden rooms, orangeries, living/dining rooms with large slide-away doors to the garden and barn conversions. An alternative heating source in such larger living spaces can be a distinct advantage especially when the mercury starts to dip.
Over the years Ian Pearce realised that a stress-free installation for the customer required the installation team to have access to some key trade skills like carpentary, masonry, stone work, plastering, tiling, structural remodelling, plumbing, electrical and gas disconnection.
In addition all these skills need to operate in a seamless and smooth sequence in order to remove the need & thereby the stress for the customer to organise any of these services.As a response to customer needs, North Mill Stoves has evolved into a one-stop wood burning stove solution provider. And today we have developed a network of key tradesmen with reliable and good work ethic that the installation team can call upon on an as-required basis.

A HAPPY CUTOMER. We contacted North Mill Stoves as they were recommended by a friend of ours. Our old woodburning stove looked shabby, wasn't very efficient and we had a problem with creosote coming back down the chimney and flue. It needed to be replaced with a more efficient modern-looking stove and the creosote problem fixed. In addition, we wanted to retain our wooden beam and that was not straightforward because of new regulations that had to be met.
Ian came and did an initial survey and worked out a design whereby the beam could remain in place. He gave a quote which turned out to be accurate

We had a log burner fitted yesterday to replace a gas fire. The one thing the gas fire never provided was atmosphere. The log burner gives us that and more. Jason, the fitter was polite, hardworking and very knowledgeable and tidy. He covered the furniture before he started. We would not hesitate in recommending North Mill Stoves. Throughout they kept us informed of the progress of our order and during these difficult times their communication and care was very welcome.

North Mills Stoves kindly sorted out a log burner from their showroom just before Christmas at very short notice so that we could enjoy Christmas in our new home. It was installed efficiently with no mess by their friendly service engineer and we are thoroughly enjoying the warmth to what was a cold house

We had a traumatic experience with Northmill Stoves when they fitted a wood burning stove and external flue for us in September 2020. There were some minor issues - e.g. they incorrectly quoted so our bill was a few hundred pounds more than what we’d signed up for, and they damaged the plaster on our living room wall and failed to put it right - but we are accepting that these things happen. What was unacceptable though was that they positioned the flue directly in front of a window. We asked if it could be repositioned, and they did this as part of their “service offering”, but a month later

From the outset we felt confident that North Mill Stove would do an excellent job and we have not been disappointed. Laura identified the most suitable stove for our opening and the installation team completed the job within 3 days. Ian followed up to commission the stove and although we only had the stove fitted a month ago we have already made good use of it during the chilly evenings at the start of April. It is extremely efficient and has a much greater heat output than our previous open fire. We only wish we had it fitted a few years ago!

In 2017 We were recommended to use North Mill Stoves by one of their satisfied customers. From our first meeting with Laura to completion of the job they were fantastic and certainly lived up to the billing our friend had given them. They are very busy but certainly worth the wait.
Nov 18, one year on we have just had our chimney swept. Another 5 star review for this service as well. I am certain that Ian left the area around the wood burner cleaner than when he arrived. Great service.
