The cycle to work scheme is part of the Government's Green Transport Plan, a "tax break" which allows employers to provide cycles and safety equipment to employees as a tax-free benefit. The scheme promotes the use of bikes as a healthy way to get to work and helps reduce environmental pollution.
Employees actually hire the bicycles from their employer then purchase them outright at the end of the salary sacrifice period for a Fair Market Value payment. The employer buys the bikes and any safety accessories at full retail price, including VAT, which they can reclaim in the normal way. The balance is recovered from the employee's gross salary over 12 months.

Although friendly chaps I cannot say I am too pleased with a recent hydraulic brake service. My wife dropped off my daughters giant bike due to a high squealing noise and vibration on both brakes. Knowing bikes (I have built a few in my time) I knew they would need a thorough clean and adjustment. Instead I got a replacement of brake pads for the front only at a cost of £40 (they cost £10 on amazon). Within the first ride the same problem occurred. I have not taken the bike back to complain because I don't trust their judgement or price. I spent a couple of hours cleaning and adjusting them.

Amazing service today at Bright Cycles! After waiting for a month for Evans to finally tell me they didn’t have the bike I paid for, the staff at Bright answered my call on the first ring, let me know what… they had in stock that might work for me, held them for me and let me try both before I purchased. I should have gone with them from the start! Customer for life now.

I can't recommend Bright Cycles highly enough. After having been through a fair few bike shops, in Ed I've found someone I trust. Not only are his prices good, but I trust his diagnoses. When I have a problem he's always able to figure it out, he often goes the extra mile to ensure I get the best solution, and he clearly explains the issue so I understand.
Although it looks like a regular corner bike shop, his knowledge covers high-end race bikes too - I trust him over Evans and all the big players with my precious steed.

Superb local independent shop. They were hugely considerate that when I dropped off and collected my bike for a service that I had my 1 year old twins in the car so couldn’t come into the shop like a ‘normal’ person! They invited me to call them in the shop so I didn’t need to leave the car, and even went as far as bringing the card machine out to the car for me to pay. They called me in advance to break down the cost of the service, all of which made perfect sense, and there was no “chancing it” or being condescending with a female customer which again I was grateful for. Thanks a

I can't thank you enough. I bought a lovely second hand bike for my 5 year old's birthday. He was very nervous as he didn't want a bike without stabilisers. But 10 minutes with Ed showing him how to ride it and he was filled with confidence. The next time I took him out he was off, and now there's no stopping him. Such great service. Thank you!

Went to Bright Cycles today for help with my brakes.
The man who served me was very welcoming and friendly - particularly as I felt a bit stupid because of my poor attempts at bike maintenance.
He was able so solve my problem straight away, without any fuss.
I would definitely come back again and recommend it to others. Thank you Bright Cycles!

Really can't fault this friendly local bike shop for service. The thing I like most about this place - and the reason I always choose them over the big bike chain and specialist stores - is I never get made to feel remotely stupid for not knowing the names of everything! Instead, the lovely man here always very kindly takes time to explain things and make sure whatever he recommends is right for your cycling level / expectations rather than just trying to upsell you or encourage you to buy things you don't really need. They've also stretched their closing time once when I was having a nightmare
