Psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists all help with emotional difficulties, mental well-being concerns, or simply when life's difficulties are just too troubling. Actually, there is a huge overlap between these three professions because they are all part of the Talking Therapies. Their differences are more in their purposes than in their professional boundaries.
Counselling is more to do with listening, comforting and self-understanding. Psychotherapy is more to do with problem solving and finding 'cures'. Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind. Generally speaking counselling is less intensive and deals with the lesser emotional problems.

The counselling stories told here are actually composites made up from a number of case histories. No real names have been used. I did this to protect the confidences of all my clients. Confidentiality is a very important issue in counselling and psychotherapy. All my clients can be assured that nothing about them is ever disclosed to any third party without their explicit consent.
Norman Claringbull is a skilled story-teller, and the narrative he unfolds in this text is nothing less than the evolution of the talking therapies from the ancient world to the current day. The result is a remarkably engaging and accessible resource which will help equip both trainees and seasoned practitioners to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century from an informed and considered position.

Loving the book Mental Health in Counselling and Psychotherapy!
As an Aussie it can be quite a drag reading the over embellished American books on mental health. Claringbull gets to the point with key information and manages a good bit of wit while doing so. Will definitely keep an eye out for other works. Cheers mate

I was really going through a very difficult period in my life and saw a couple of therapists but nothing changed. A friend recommended Norman for whom I am forever grateful. He listened to me sympathetically and without judging me. It was such a relief to be able to talk to someone who was genuinely concerned about my problems. Norman went the extra mile by helping me to find answers and even helped me to put them into practice. Today I feel much more in control of my life. Thanks to Norman.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Dr Norman Claringbull when he needed assistance to take control of his former website and the development of a new website. Although, I can not give a review for his services I can certainly vouch for his character which I believe is very important. I believe Norman to be a very experienced, knowledgeable and approachable character. From all the books he has written it is evident of the degree to which he is qualified within the field of psychology and psychotherapy. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with and wish him all the best. I would not hesitate in
