I will be following guidance from the government, and my professional organisation the British Acupuncture Association (BAA) to keep us all safe. Please contact me if you have any questions. We have new 'meet and greet' arrangements in place at the practice. When you book an appointment I will send you information about how we are practicing to keep everyone safe.
Services
Acupuncture has many abilities that western medicine does not have - like the ability to improve the energetic functioning of the body. This is especially useful in chronic, ongoing conditions. The thoughts, emotions and lifestyle of each person are taken into consideration, so that your treatment is personalised and individual to you.
The 'Five Element' and 'Traditional Chinese' Acupuncture systems are taught in the UK as two schools of Acupuncture that focus on slightly different aspects of our health. Historically things were different. They both use the same acupuncture points but the selection and combinations of points is different.
In this documentary for BBC Two, the scientist Professor Kathy Sykes from Bristol University, demonstrates a double blind study that shows that Acupuncture is not a placebo effect. Using brain scanning techniques the real acupuncture treatments show statistical evidence of acupuncture's effectiveness to treat pain.
One of the problems with Acupuncture research is that most medical research is done using a randomised control study. Unfortunately this type of study is not suited to complex interventions. Psychotherapy for instance is also a poor candidate for randomised control trials because it is not easy to identify the one single action that was used to create a change for the client.
Why are so many people suffering from chronic pain and why doesn't all pain respond to painkillers?. Pain is a feeling that is created in the brain. Some pain is created in response to damage in the body, but we can also experience pain that is related to chemical changes, often due to stress, or repeated painful events.
