With a bar that measures just 15ft by 7ft, The Nutshell proudly holds the title of smallest pub in Britain as confirmed in the Guinness Book of Records. Located in the heart of the historic Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, The Nutshell has been proud to serve customers jostling for a place at the bar since it first started serving beer in 1867.
Now a major tourist attraction for local and worldwide visitors, The Nutshell continues the tradition of serving some of the regions finest ales, and providing a bar not just full of customers, but interesting historical items, photos and memorabilia. We invite you to come and sample the cosy experience of drinking in The Nutshell, on a busy night elbow to elbow with our locals and visitors.

Services
Being a small pub, you would be surprised at how much there is inside the bar - and that is not just our customers! From a mummified cat and currency notes on the ceiling to historical photos, military items and an aeroplane propeller on the walls there is much to view and talk about while you enjoy a drink.
Although the building had been in existence for some time before, the earliest recorded sale of the building in part was in 1844. Peter Peck, its Fruiterer owner sold to another Fruiterer Richard Caney. The earliest references to its current use as we know it date from 1867 when the deeds refer to "all that freehold messuage or tenement formally a Fruiterers but then converted into and used as a Beerhouse".
The Nutshell welcomes visitors from all over the UK, Europe and indeed the world to our bar in the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds. We are keen to hear from anyone who has enjoyed a drink in the bar, to allow us to form an online guest book complete with messages and even photos of your visit.
The Nutshell has a range of polo-shirts, T-shirts and tankards for sale for our visitors. These will be available online soon, but in the meantime please ask at the bar who will be delighted to help you. Quality T-Shirt with printed Nutshell logo on front, and 'Smallest Pub - Tallest Tales' printed on rear.
The Nutshell is proud to be involved within the local community of Bury St Edmunds. We are now in our fourth year of sponsoring a team in the local Moreton Hall Youth Football Club, who are about to start their U11's season. Our sponsorship has provided the team with a full kit and training jackets to help with their participation in the local Ipswich and Suffolk Youth Football League.

This place was one of my dad's favourite spots in Bury St. Edmunds since he lived there. Everytime we went, it was always pleasant, and the environment was always lively. Kev was the bar tender everytime we went, and is always humorous and a very fun conversationalist. Oh, and he's a VERY good photographer- make sure you ask him for a photograph π
I'll be sure to stop by again as much as I could.
Thank you for being apart of our dad and always keeping him company
