Services
Your eye examination will last approximately 45 minutes but sometimes longer. We allow the time to thoroughly examine your eyes and vision using the latest technology such as the Retinal scanner. You are encouraged to ask any questions to ensure that you feel at ease. We enjoy testing your eyes and we are very happy to share with you the information we obtain during this process.
Scotts was founded in 1921 by William Scott who bought the building at 4 The Traverse, Bury St Edmunds and established his sons, Granville and Graham as Opticians/Jewellers there. This was before the days of the NHS sight test and producing a spectacle prescription was somewhat rudimentary. Sometime in the early 1930's William Darrington joined Mr Scott as an Optician partner and then married Mr Scott's daughter Winnie in 1940.
Choosing frames should be fun so let us help you to take the stress out of making your choice. Designer brands include Gucci, Tom Ford Valentino. Swarovski, Rayban, Oakley, Ted Baker, Face a Face, Etnia Barcelona, Silhouette, Jaguar and others. We recommend childrens frames such as zoobug and erins world for special facial characteristics and safe fit.
Being an independent practice we have the freedom to fit and supply an extensive range of contact lenses from all types and brands. Most people, with the right assistance are able to wear lenses. We will spend the time to help you learn how to put them in and take them out, and find the best type for your needs.
Dry eye and blepharitis are common conditions that affect the eyes. Symptoms are usually in both eyes but may vary in severity. This may include feelings of grit in the eyes, burning, watering, blurry vision and itching. The condition does not normally cause permanent problems to sight but in severe cases it can become very painful and cause damage to the front of the eye.

I took my relatively new glasses into the shop today which I had managed to damage quite badly, while getting the Christmas decorations out of the loft!
As always the staff where so helpful.

Excellent service, I can’t thank the staff enough. You’ve been brilliant.
My 15 month old little boy needed his first pair of glasses after being seen by the hospital. As a Mum I found this very upsetting and traumatic but the ladies at Scott’s we’re amazing as he got really upset about trying the glasses on. They spent time with him playing tractors and building his confidence, nothing was too much trouble.
When we returned to have his glasses fitted today Andrew was fabulous, he explained every last detail, put our minds at rest, nothing was too much trouble, he was amazing with my

I've used Scotts for many years. It is a brilliant local business , based around an excellent service. Recently I visited Sue for my contact lens check and she was as friendly , helpful and professional as ever. I also had a sight test which was thorough and very well explained. All supported by an excellent team. It's tough for local , high street businesses but Scotts get it absolutely right. I would highly recommend them.
