The Canterbury Auction Galleries
Established in 1991, we are Kent's leading Auctioneers & Valuers of Fine Art, Antiques and Collectables. Situated in the centre of the historic Cathedral City of Canterbury are the long established auction rooms of The Canterbury Auction Galleries. Established in 1991, we have a proven track record of achieving London prices and yet retaining local professionalism and attention to detail.

We hold a two to three day auction every six/seven weeks, selling a full range of antiques and collectables from jewellery to furniture. These sales are extensively publicised via a fully illustrated catalogue, together with local and national advertising. We hold lengthy viewing sessions for each sale and all of our auctions are available online.
Services
Protecting your treasured and valuable possessions, from jewellery and artwork to more unique collectables, is very important to us here at The Canterbury Auction Galleries. We offer a range of valuation services for probate and insurance purposes as we understand the significance of valuing your assets accurately for your own peace of mind.
The Canterbury Auction Galleries hold six main auctions a year (along with occasional specialist collection auctions), which are facilitated by each department. A wide variety of departmental options are available and our specialists will seamlessly guide you through which one is best for you in order to consign items.
In common with all major auctioneers, we operate a buyers premium and all buyers must pay a premium of 22.5% plus V.A.T. of the hammer price - i.e. 27% inclusive of V.A.T. Please note, we deal with several hundred condition report requests per sale, you may need to wait a few days for a response.

Intending buyers who are unable to attend the auction may leave written commission bids with the Auctioneers, who undertake to purchase lots as cheaply as allowed by other bids and any reserves.Whilst taking every care, the Auctioneers cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions. Commission forms should be handed to the Auctioneer or Sale Clerk by 9am on the Day of Sale at latest.
We believe that selling with The Canterbury Auction Galleries will enable you, as a vendor, to achieve high prices for your items and we have a strong track record of facilitating this - with vendors often achieving hammer prices in excess of equivalent items sold in the London salerooms.

We achieve this success for our vendors in two ways - firstly, our valuers all possess a broad range of knowledge, experience and expertise enabling us to ensure that your items are valued accurately and, secondly, we employ the full range of modern marketing and selling techniques, with, for instance, every item we sell illustrated and available to buy online, in real time.

Quite simply the best auction experience I have ever had. Customer service at it's finest. The person who gave a bad review about a vase on which the crack wasn't mentioned by the auctioneer, should realise that if you are thinking of bidding on ceramics you should ALWAYS request a condition report before committing to buy. Don't blame the auctioneer for your mistake matey.
Really friendly and helpful staff, engaging auctioneer online, smart, efficient service and completely on the ball.
I cannot recommend this auction house enough, and no, it's not a fake review and I don't know anyone there

The auction is particularly selective in a good way and the young porters are superb, very helpful who elevate the professionalism of the auction. On a negative note IN MY PERSONAL OPINION Mr Dave Parker dont have the necessary knowledge to value antique gold and silver items..for example a George III Gold with turquoises thimble valued at 75% of gold scrap His manners leave a lot to desire..no apologies offered when he listed on auction catalogue my 870 grams Victorian Silver Chalice at a mere 300 grams..of course jeopardizing the sale.I don't like to be patronized by someone with inferior knowledge

Mr Coates has wrongly accused us in his review - I personally dealt with his case and welcomed his suggestion of a visit by Trading Standards - for the record we do not, cannot and have never "photoshopped" or enhanced any image we print, we offer a full photographic condition report to any and every client, many distance clients rely on this service and request dozens of images, no other client in the history of The Canterbury Auction Galleries has ever complained about our images, we shall be seeking legal advice as to our position with Mr Coates comments.
