Jim and Marion Mountain started The Walled Garden nursery in 1987. Both trained in horticulture at Oaklands, Herts College of Agriculture and Horticulture. Between them, they worked at many notable nurseries including Hilliers, Rochfords, Clarke and Spears and Knaphill Nurseries, before joining an organisation which grew 20% of the salads consumed in this country.
They have since been joined by up to 9 members of staff all of which are keen gardeners. Some are fully trained, others pass through and gain from the valuable experience that the nursery provides. We pride ourselves in both our customer service and the depth of experience that we have and are happy to pass it on.

Services
The Walled Garden is a plant nursery and garden situated in Benhall, near the Suffolk Coast. Purchased in 1992 by Jim and Marion Mountain, the nursery specialises in perennials but also grow shrubs, climbers, roses, bedding, herbs and vegetables. Complementing the plants, we offer a wide range of pots, garden furniture and garden ornaments.
We regret that dog, with the exception of assistance dogs, are not allowed within the garden or sales area. From Woodbridge direction, pass through the village of Farnham, go up the hill along 400m of straight road and then take the 2nd left into Park Rd. From Yoxford, travel in Ipswich direction. As you pass the A1094 left turn, lookout for the right turn signs 'The Walled Garden' and shortly make a right turn into Park Rd.
The Walled Garden was built in the first or second decade of the 1800s to grow fruit and vegetables for Benhall Lodge and the owner's London home. It stands about 300 yards to the south-east of the nursery on the other side of a wood. Apart from the wall and other buildings which remain, there were a number of glasshouses, the last of which was destroyed by the hurricane of 1987.
Feel free to walk around the garden inside and outside the wall. Inside you will find our perennial borders showcasing our nursery plants, a pond with seating to ponder your thoughts, a fantastic Wisteria walk and borders all around the wall with shrubs, perennials and climbers. To the front of the garden you will find our summerhouse with tea and coffee making facilities.
Standard flower pots - inexpensive and looking good, plants are easily removed from them for potting on. Glazed - we don't sell a great many of these, but sometimes they are irresistible so we stock a few. Plants that are short lived or replaced annual or a little less often can go in any shape of pot.
