Colne Valley Museum
Colne Valley Museum, a Grade II listed building, is housed in four cottages built in the 1840s by a family of independent cloth manufacturers, the Pearsons, whose relatives still live in Golcar today. The Museum was originally set up in three weavers' cottages to preserve the buildings and the traditional skills which were practised there during the nineteenth century.

Membership allows people the opportunity to support our aims of preserving and presenting the craft heritage of this period of valley life. Colne Valley Museum is a charity run entirely by volunteers. The museum simply wouldn't be here if it wasn't for members of the wider community who give freely of their time.

Excellent... Friendly warm welcome and a chance to learn about Huddersfield's industrial history followed by homemade cake in the coffee shop. Happy 50th anniversary!

Tea room smashing. Pot of tea this time. The Ladies were dressed in the fashions associated with those bygone days the museum now stands for. Well done to them on such a scorchio day.😁 as "Arnie" once said, "I'll be back"

Fabulous, quirky 'little' museum. Spinning, weaving, clogmaking. Tiny tearoom with smashing cake. A must visit if you are within a 2hr drive.

Difficult as all of it interesting but the truckle bed evoked a memory - l slept on one as a small child, during the day it was stored below my gran's brass bedstead.

Visited on Sunday for the first time since I was a child with my husband who had never visited before. We really enjoyed our visit and the interaction with all the enthusiastic and knowledgable volunteers. It was great to see crafts being demonstrated. Great that you can handle most items in the museum which is frowned upon in bigger museums where everything is displayed behind glass. The cafe was an added bonus. A great day out for only £3.00 per person.

Had a lovely afternoon at the museum . Even though there wasn't an event on there was plenty to do. Sat and watched a film show, looked at the photos 'The Colne Valley on black and white ', and finished off with tea and scones in the cafe. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

I attended a concert here and before it started, my friend and I decided to have a wander around the museum. Julie and a gentleman whose name I didn't get were particularly interesting and enthusiastic giving us demonstrations of the machines. The clog room was a sight to behold!
Also all the staff downstairs in the cafe and shop were just as lovely. The fact that they volunteer makes them all the more brilliant.
