Conveniently located in Preston Acupuncture in Torbay, is just a short distance between Torquay and Paignton. If you are asking "where is Acupuncture near me?" well, here I am! The Clinic has been established locally since 1995 and is run by myself, Kim Maidment. Prior to that, I trained for three years at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading for my Licentiate.

This is where I formally studied Five Element Acupuncture, TCM Acupuncture and Patent Herbs, in addition to Anatomy, Pathology and Physiology. Later, I studied for a further year in order to convert this training into an accredited Bachelor of Science Honours degree. Since that time, I have been in continuous practice and have extended my professional knowledge-base by achieving accreditations in, amongst other things, Bio-Magnetics and Tuina.
Services
On Your first visit to Torbay Acupuncture Clinic you may be with me for up to 2 hours depending on your ailments although 1 hour is usually sufficient. I will spend time taking a diagnostic history, this will involve making observations such as the appearance of your tongue and the quality of your pulse and asking lots of questions.
If you follow Torbay Road it goes from Torquay through Preston (where I am) to Paignton, In Preston you come to a set of traffic lights with GAP recruitment on the corner painted Grey. Turn toward the seafront and I am the first on the left. TQ3 2HR No.34, I am before The Ship in between Big Baps and GAP.
I am associated with the Chinese Medicine trade by the fact that I practice Chinese Acupuncture. I used to use Patent herbal remedies but under pressure from the Pharmaceutical Industry the EU stopped Acupuncturists from using Patent herbs even though we are trained in this. I used to have good ethical Herbal suppliers here in the UK but because of the EUs actions they went out of business.
TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) Acupuncture is as old as Five Element Acupuncture but was changed and then used after the revolution because it doesn't talk of the Spirit of the body and the concept was considered more 'Scientific'. It would take a large book to describe the concepts of TCM but I will try in a few sentences!
First, you book in for a free assessment. During this assessment your medical history will be discussed and the pro's and con's of the treatment For instance, Abdominal Acupuncture is not suitable for pregnant ladies. By this time you will have decided to commit to a course of treatment and would have discussed fully the pros and cons (there are very few cons).

Kim Maidment at The Acupuncture Clinic was recommended to me by a professional physiotherapist due to the acute joint pain and very debilitiating exhaustion following a medical diagnosis of Genetic Haemochromatosis - a serious and life threatening illness in July 2017.
At the time of my first visit to Kim in October 2017 my Ferritin (Iron) levels were 980 and poisoning my body (a healthy normal range is 30 - 70) and I was borderline anaemic with a haemoglobin level of 13 (normal range is 17 -22) which was affecting the potential for any medical treatment.
In conjunction with the medical treatment

I've had two accupuncture appointments so far with Kim to improve my eczema. He's absolutely brilliant and very welcoming, I can't wait for my next treatment and to start seeing improvements. Would highly recommend!
