Bereavement is a time when carefully considered advice is most needed. Following a death, certain practical steps need to be taken at an early stage and we are here to support and guide you through the process. Our fully trained and professional staff are available 24 hours a day to help with any enquiry you may have.

We pride ourselves on offering a high standard of service, respecting each bereaved family's particular wishes. At this most difficult of times, we are here to offer emotional support, expert advice and practical help. You can rest assured that our customer care charter sets out our promise to you.
Services
When you need to arrange a funeral for a loved one who has passed away, our experienced funeral directors and funeral arrangers are here to guide you through the choice of arrangements to ensure the funeral is a fitting tribute to your loved one's life. We can assure you that the funeral will run smoothly.
If you call during surgery hours, the GP will normally come to the house to certify the death and issue a death certificate giving the cause of death (officially called the Medical Certificate of Death). If you call out of normal surgery hours, an out-of-hours doctor will visit the house, but the certificate will be issued later, when the surgery re-opens.
You probably won't feel like tackling administration tasks right away, however you do need to register the death within 5 days. It's fairly straight forward if you live in the same district where the death took place. You just go to your local office of Registration, Births, Deaths and Marriages. You may need an appointment to see the registrar, so give them a call in advance to arrange a time.
At Churchfield Funeralcare, we offer a range of funeral services to suit different beliefs, budgets and personal requirements. Every funeral service we offer will be tailored to the requests of the person who has passed or the loved one looking after the arrangements. The funeral services we provide are cremations, non-religious funerals, unattended funerals, cemetery burials and woodland burials.
Bereavement Payment - a one-off lump sum you claim when your spouse or civil partner dies. Although the above are separate benefits, you don't have to apply more than once - you'll be considered for all bereavement benefits when you apply for one. In England and Wales you can claim for any of the above benefits, and tell the DWP about the death at the same time, by calling the DWP Bereavement Service on 0845 606 0265.
