The Coffee Kitchen started back in 2011 serving speciality coffees, real bread, homemade cakes and different varieties of tea. In 2015, we opened The Bakery in Market Place. In 2019 we closed The Coffee Kitchen to concentrate on the bakery side of the business. We have loved our time serving people great coffee and fantastic food but we felt the future direction of the business was all about the bread and baked goods that we make in the bakery.
We look forward to welcoming you there. Our newsletter is full of news and events about The Coffee Kitchen and The Coffee Kitchen Bakery. You will also receive special offers and discounts throughout the year. We regularly host a wide variety of events, and on Friday nights we stay open late with a cafe-bar from 6pm to 11pm.

Services
We love coffee and we love food. At home, we drink espressos in the morning and lattes if we are being lazy at the weekend. Our love affair with coffee goes back to before we were married (which seems an awfully long time ago now). The Coffee Kitchen came about because we wanted to create the sort of place that we would like to hang around in.
Our espresso blend is called Foundation from a remarkable company called Union Hand-Roasted Coffee. It hits all the right spots - it's good for milky drinks but great in an espresso too. Union call their Foundation blend 'coffee with real attitude.' It's a roast that follows the traditions of the dark, sweet roasts of southern Italy and Sicily, blending coffees from India, Guatemala and Sumatra.
We first met Clare and Michael of Bellevue Teas earlier tin 2011 at an exhibition in London and we were impressed both by their knowledge and their enthusiasm. They have been working in and around the tea industry for years and we have found them wonderful people to work with. We serve all our teas in bone china cups.
We aim to use as much local food as we can. Cumbria has an amazing selection of local producers and we try to champion the produce that this wonderful county provides. Our menus reflect this with a series of great and tasty dishes. About 60% of our autumn food menu is vegetarian and many of our dishes can be made vegan too.
We love bread - fresh bread, without any additives and made with locally milled flour. Take a look at the ingredients list on the packaging of a normal loaf of bread. Often there's a long list of various additives they throw into the bread to 'improve' it. Even with all those additives, they don't even include things like enzymes which are used as part of the baking process.

You saved our wedding! With 10 days to go before our wedding our caterer let us and our 150 guests down. Panic mode struck and the Coffee Kitchen saved the day! They provided exactly what we wanted a great selection of goodies for our wedding breakfast and an amazing chilli for the evening. The guests loved it all. The service was just amazing and you went beyond when you saw drinks were getting low and even went to get some more for us! Thank you is not enough.

Amazing bakery where you can request something that might not be ordinarily on the menu. Also theirs a good selection of sandwiches, but on a number of occasions someones wanted one that has sold out or just hasn't been on offer normally, if your willing to wait obviously a few minutes, they will specially go and make your sandwich, the coffee is awesome, I guess my only criticism and downside for me at least, is the payment system and method, unless your paying with cash witch is your best bet, as paying by card can often have issues, painfully slow and sometimes not even complete the transaction

This bakery has brought a weekly smile to my face during lockdown. The quality of their bread is consistently high, tasty, flavoursome & a great texture. Expensive? - good ingredients & slower processes cost more than bread that’s full of air & nasty additives. The bread freezes well so good for slicing, & freezing.
Just tried a pecan tart- amazing crumbly pastry & tasty filling. Thanks!
