Recycling is one of the key measures to reduce the amount of waste that we consign to landfill, and to help realise the value potential of materials hitherto described as 'waste.' The local authorities - commissioning services and facilities for the collection of recyclable materials, and providing education, advice and support.
The EnviroSort plant receives, sorts and despatches all the clean recyclables collected from households across Worcestershire and Herefordshire, that is, all the cans, glass and plastic bottles, paper and light card put out for kerbside collection. It has a capacity to receive and sort up to 105,000 tonnes per year in the 7,000 sq.m. building.
Herefordshire Council, Worcestershire County Council and the District Authorities in Worcestershire are working together to provide a common and simple system for the collection of dry recyclable materials from kerbsides across the two Counties. The authorities have adopted a system of mixed or 'commingled' collections whereby householders are requested to place an identified range of recyclable materials into a single receptacle for collection.
If your kerbside recyclables are collected in sacks, you cannot put glass bottles and jars in the sacks. Make sure that your recycling is clean - a rinse under the tap to remove any residue will do! Make sure your recycling is loose - please don't put bags of recyclables into your green bin. DO NOT DISPOSE OF ANY TYPE OF BATTERY IN YOUR RECYCLING BIN - Batteries can be taken to any Household Recycling Centre.
