Our hostelry is reputed to be the oldest continuously licensed pub in Shropshire and offers a range of traditional, local ales, with four cask ales on tap and good value, homemade food. We are famous for our Fidget Pie', a Shropshire recipe of gammon, apples and cider that has been handed down from landlord to landlord and was eaten here by Prince Edward over 25 years ago.
We pride ourselves on retaining the traditional character and atmosphere of a country pub. The rambling, low-beamed bar in this ancient place has a roaring winter log fire, cauldron, black kettle and pewter jugs in our vast inglenook fireplace, the old standing timbers of a knocked-through wall, and red and green tapestry seats solidly capped in elm.

My wife, daughter and I enjoyed a great anniversary dinner at The Oak. The entire experience was great. The ambiance is very warm and inviting. We love the farmhouse. It was after sunset when we arrived so we didn't get to enjoy the scenery but from what we could see, it was beautiful. We had the NY Strip chef's special with a red wine and rosemary reduction and it was cooked to perfection. I had a hard time choosing what to eat due to the great selection. The owner's son waited on us and he was great. Never waited on anything and he wasn't "in your face" either. If you are staying at Pipestem

The food and ambience of this wonderful restaurant is very elegant and yet, I felt like I was at home. Our waitress, Emily, is very kind and when she brought out the creme brûlée, she added a candle because it was my birthday, it made it even more special. The dish was absolutely amazing and the flavors all went perfectly together. The pasta was cooked to my liking; the squash and zucchini were tender; the shrimp were also tangy and tender while the sauce brought it all together. The fried oysters were so very tender and delicately seasoned.

The ambiance is very good. The staff is very friendly and attentive. There are 2 negatives that caused my 3 star rating. The first the restaurant can't change. The floor, walls and ceiling are wood and the acoustics are terrible. With tables of 8 to our front and side conversation at our 4 top was all but impossible. The 2d issue was the food. Three of our four ordered prime rib, medium rare. All 3 came rare. The portion was large but very fatty and thin (about a half inch). The meal was served with green beans that we decided hadn't been cooked at all. Inedible. Sides also included a dried out

Over a decade ago my family chose to celebrate our annual reunion here and I have been enjoying this wonderful restaurant ever since. The staff are welcoming and polite and are always accommodating to our large group. We have celebrated 50th wedding anniversaries, high school and college graduations here and all have been a huge success. The food is superb; I've never left without a happy stomach. Highly recommend!
