Services
Hardy perennials will flower year after year and give striking displays of colour throughout the seasons. From Winter flowering Hellebore to Spring Geraniums and early Summer Delphiniums, right the way through to the stately Summer Agapanthus and the late flowering Japanese Anemones. We will be happy to guide you through the seasons with your plant selections and give advice for the more difficult shadier parts of the garden.
At Root One we really love our roses! With a stunning array of colours and scents to choose from, roses are high maintenance but massively rewarding. From the magnificent once-a-year display of the rambler Albertine, the exquisite coppery tones of Lady Emma Hamilton or the heady scent of Gertrude Jekyll these are must have plants for anyone who loves their garden.
To the back of the garden centre, our tree collection is bursting with choice. From the ornamental Cherry, Magnolia or Eucalyptus, to classic fruit trees like the apple, pear or apricot. We stock Frank P Matthews, a UK based family run business, that provides the highest quality and largest range of trees.
Ideal for rockeries, or for planting up an old kitchen sink perhaps, alpines are tough, drought-tolerant, low-maintenance plants thriving in well-drained, relatively poor soil. We carry a good range of alpines throughout the year and they are very popular with our customers. The succulent varieties - Sempervivums and Sedums, for example - are particularly drought-tolerant thanks to the water-storing capacity of their fleshy leaves.
Shrubs provide structure, particularly the evergreen varieties, and are therefore an essential part of any garden. They can provide shelter from the wind and create shapes of almost any size to suit the location. They will also flower of course and certain shrubs, like Hydrangeas for example, have a very long flowering season.

This post gives me no pleasure whatsoever but I wanted everyone to be aware of 'SHOCKING' customer service that we experienced today.
My wife and I have been here many times in our 20+years as residents and have never had a bad experience, until today. The day they lost us as customers forever.
Two weeks ago, my wife and I brought a eucalyptus plant (as well as many other items, pots and plants) in good faith and within days (having watered it daily), it started to show signs of dying.
With all our best intentions, we decided to keep going and try to revive it but it proved absolutely futile

Very strange that you can't offer me a sandwich or a baguette after 3pm as it's classed as hot food ?
Not only did you lose trade from the cafe but also incremental trade for the garden centre as weel

Have been a couple of times now and will definitely return. Could not praise the service in the cafe highly enough, good choice of food and the coffee is superb, complimented by friendly and very capable staff. Top notch.

The garden centre itself is lovely, with a good selection of plants and reasonable prices. The cafe however is terrible and will put me off coming to the garden centre as it's always nice to combine the 2 on a visit.
The first time we visited, our sandwich order was completely forgotten, we were sat waiting patiently for ages until I questioned it, then were just told they had missed the order by mistake, with hardly an apology. They gave the impression they weren't really bothered.
The next time I went, we ordered flat whites, and the coffee offered was just coffee with milk, no foam whatsoever

This is an independent garden centre which sells just about everything you need. The plants always look very healthy and the staff are friendly and helpful. Yet to go back to the outside cafe since it reopened, but it always had a good range of hot and cold dishes. That's for next time.
