Eastbourne Tyre Company was founded in 1925 by Nelson Ashby (the present owners grandfather) and moved to its current site in 1929. At this time they would re-tread tyres at the Fort road depot as well as being vulcanised repair specialists.

Nelson's son-law, Charlie Price joined the family business at the age of 15 and, apart from the war years, spent the whole of his working life at the tyre company, at first alongside Nelson and then as proprietor.Charlie introduced the art of battery making and repairing, to the business, which he carried out well into the late 70s.
