The Firs Nursery has been established for over 25 years. It operates from premises in the grounds of Chartham Primary School. We care for and educate children from the ages of 2 up to 5 years in our setting. The children have access to an enclosed outdoor play area with climbing equipment, as well as a dining room and the main play room.
The nursery is on one floor, access is via a ramp and there is a disabled toilet. It is open each weekday from 7.45am to 5.30pm, term time only. We strive to create an environment where all children achieve their full potential. We are proud of our inclusive ethos, where we recognise all children and families as individuals.

Services
We are a small nursery on the site of Chartham Primary School in the rural village of Chartham, near Canterbury. The nursery site benefits from a large outside area set amongst fields and farm land. The buildings are nestled within fir trees and include a large playroom, recently refurbished children's toilets and nappy changing area as well as dining room and kitchen.
We use 'In the Moment Planning' to plan activities and provide resources relevant to your child's individual interests and developmental stage. Each key person will make observations that inform assessments against the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, and share photos, videos and learning with parents on the Tapestry app.
The Firs Nursery is open from 7.30am to 6pm weekdays for Nursery children. We also offer breakfast club and afterschool club places to children from Chartham Primary school. These school-age provisions are known as Squirrels Club. The club is most suitable for children from Reception to Year 2 but we will accept applications for Key stage 2 children (8-11 years.)
All staff at The Firs understand the importance of working in partnership with families. We work together to ensure all children learn and develop, achieving their full potential. Parents have daily contact and feedback about their child's learning experiences at nursery. We use an online learning journal system called Tapestry which allows us to share photos, videos and observations.
We accept all childcare vouchers. We accept 15 hours Free for Two Funding, Universal 15 hours funding for 3 and 4 years old and 30 hours funding for 3 and 4 year olds. Funding can be used in all sessions apart from lunch. The 'Pricing Policy' now includes a 'late payment' charge of 5% on any fees which remain outstanding at the end of the term.

The staff are first rate at Firs, very engaging and friendly.
Our child always comes out super happy and enjoys their time that day.
The setting, activities and facilities are great. So much to do there. Always sending pics of our child doing different activities, playing and going on walks with the other children.
Would definitely recommend!

Firs Nursery is a wonderfully creative and supportive place. Without a doubt the staff make it as great as it is. My son adores coming here. They always have time for any concerns you have big or small. Couldn't recommend it more!!

Our child is at The Firs, and it has been a wonderful experience. The staff are welcoming and engaged, and there is a strong focus on outdoor learning.
Our child comes home every day with new ideas and words, excited to tell us about what they have been doing.
We are kept up-to-date with what is happening with our child, and the teachers are always available to discuss progress, concerns, etc.

After sending 2 children to The Firs Nursery we have been extremely impressed with the care and engagement of the staff who my children love and we have had excellent communication with throughout. I can highly recommend this nursery, surrounded by trees the children are given fantastic opportunties for outdoor learning and my children have always loved going.

I can not praise The First nursery or their staff enough! My little girl has come out of her shell, started showing her personality and loves going to nursery everyday, she's made friends, improved on her speech and language and even sings us nursery rhymes at home! Most of all the care and attention given to the children is outstanding, we are so pleased we chose The Firs nursery and will be sending our youngest to the nursery next year
