The parents of Jon and Bo, Jim and Trisha live on-site in the farmhouse and still have an active role in running the business. Jim is a certified British Eventing course designer and is joint organiser of the Poplar Park Horse Trials. Jim's profession, from which he has largely now retired, is Structural Engineering.
His father bred Welsh Section B ponies in Derbyshire of which Bantam, whom some of you may remember, was one! Jim has participated in just about every equestrian discipline: riding club, eventing, endurance, harness racing, hunting and point-to-pointing (winning one race and coming second in another).

Here at Poplar, we are very proud of what we have on offer for horse riders of all ages and abilities. We hire out our facilities to both individuals and groups such as riding and pony clubs. Come for an afternoon or make a day of it and take in some hacking after you've schooled round the xc course.
In an area of outstanding natural beauty, with miles of forest and open country to explore, and an abundance of wildlife (not to mention the hordes or country pubs) to discover there's something here for everyone equestrian or not! We have wonderful onsite accommodation available at the traditional farmhouse: 'Nightingales' is our self contained one bedroom flat, suitable for one or two people.
Many thanks to all those who are making the trip and supporting the event now in its fourth year - and thank you for all your wonderful feedback. Of course, I couldn't organise this event without my amazing helpers, your assistance is greatly appreciated!

My friend & I had the most wonderful hack to the beach & returning through the woods a truly stunning experience & one we will never forget. It was more than we imagined.
So professional yet friendly thank you Jon and our horses were beautifully fitted & suitable for our ability. We will definitely be visiting in the near future & wished we lived closer!

I came with my friend from the US this summer. We stayed in the house and had a few days of riding and touring the area. It was a great experience! They were extremely accommodating when we showed up a few hours late the first night and had to reschedule a lesson. Bo picked out perfect horses - enough challenge to learn something and easy enough to be fun. The location was an absolutely charming Elizabethan house and the breakfasts and packed lunches were to die for. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway, destination trip, or fun trail ride/lesson/cross-country school
