The Real Thing is a family-run business first created in 1982 by Catherine Robinson. After having worked in a traditional jewellers, Catherine realised that there was demand for jewellery made from "The Real Thing" (real semi precious gemstones) without it costing the Earth. Having spotted this gap in the market she taught herself how to thread and started hiring tables at craft fairs to sell her "creations".
From here, Catherine's husband Mark joined the business, then they decided to expand by visiting jewellery manufacturers across the country, Europe and the far East and buying jewellery which they considered to be unique yet affordable. Catherine & Mark's daughter Josie has now also joined the business, working between the two shops, helping to buy in new designs and build our social-media presence.
