Anyone looking to buy their first home will be classed as a First Time Buyer, so long as the property is purchased as their only or primary residence. It's become notoriously difficult for First Time Buyers to secure a mortgage in recent years, and the effects of the global pandemic certainly haven't helped this.
A 'Home Mover' is anyone who already has a residential home and a mortgage in place, but is looking at moving house. Home Mover Mortgages are sometimes facilitated by porting your current mortgage to your new home, unless you are unable to do so for whatever reason, in which case you may want to apply for a suitable Home Mover Mortgage from your current lender or switch to a new lender.
Buy to Let mortgages are necessary if you want to purchase a residential property to rent out in the capacity of a landlord. It's important to note that Buy to Let mortgages do not allow for the owner to use the property for their own residential home, even during a renovation process.
If you already own a residential property, however, it's sometimes possible to change your standard residential mortgage to Buy to Let, if you decide to let it out at a later date.Have an annual income of at least 25,000 and a strong credit score (not always a minimum salary requirement). Buy to Let mortgages work similarly to the Standard Residential mortgage, although they are predominantly Interest-only.

When you want to make changes to the mortgage you currently have, whether that's changing Mortgage Lenders or looking for a better deal with your current lender, you can do this by remortgaging. This is known as a Product Transfer when you stay with your original lender. If you're looking to change your existing mortgage from an Interest-only to a repayment mortgage, most lenders should be able to arrange this without you remortgaging.
