In 1968, Nicholas Thake, aged just 16, founded his first business, NJ Thake Cycles, where he bought, sold and repaired used bikes from his home. Opening his first bike shop in 1972 in Sawbridgeworth, the business developed into a family of more than 23 stores, adopting the name "The Cycle King"; in the early 80's.

Dropped off a couple of childrens bikes in need of TLC and Jamie made them look like new and importantly gave them the once over and replaced a cable and ensured they were safe as well as replacing handle grips, inner tubes, a tyre and saddle, all with same day service and at a very reasonable cost. In fact, lower than I thought it would be!
5 Star service all the way. You can't go wrong.

Had and issue with my sons Mafia bike over the weekend. I could not get the rear wheel back on after making some repairs. I took it to Halfords and they told me that the rear axle thread had gone and I would need a new one, which they did not stock, and did not appear very knowledgable where to source one or very helpful!! I decided to go to Cycle King in Wickford and spoke to a gentleman called Chris. I explained what at happened and asked Chris for a second opinion. He was more than happy to have a look, and within 5 mins had my back wheel on and working fine. There was nothing wrong with the

I would highly recommend Cycle King, Wickford. I was in need of help when the pedals on my bike were absolutely stuck and they weren't budging, no matter what I did. The guys in store were amazing and really friendly. I called them up, they said just pop down and they'll see what they can do, I went down and they got them off for me. Really great service.

Was shocked to see the bad reviews on here considering Google reviews was all 5 stars then realised how old the other reviews were. They must of had a change in management as this place is great, friendly and polite. Adam helped me choose 2 bikes for me and my son and recommend a couple of good helmets and it all came to a reasonable price.

Just took my bike back as I had slightly buckled the front wheel and sorted me out in no time! I won’t be going anywhere else from now on with my bike needs. I tried to visit your Chadwell Heath store today, the door was wide open when I got there so with my face mask on I wheeled my bike in only for one of your staff to start yelling at me because you had too many customers at the time. I was not politely informed at all, I’m very upset and if I ever do decide to try you again which is doubtful I will be recording my visit.

Staff inside as well as Dave are so polite and showed patience. Customer service was excellent and their product knowledge is great.
Great selection of bikes and recommend… this store on Coventry road.
The staff have put measures in place for social distancing - only one person or couple inside the unit at a time. You are not rushed and highly recommend speaking to the staff especially Dave for any advice

I was kindly given a new bike from Cycle King as a present, however the bike was delivered with a flat tyre. when i returned the bike to the shop i was treated like dirt and asked why i hadn't returned the bike straight away, i explained that i had been given the bike as a gift and therefore it hadn't been given to me straight away.
