Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes have been providing accommodation for elderly residents since 1945 when they became available to evacuees made homeless during the war. Since then, and thanks to the generosity of many, the homes have continued to grow and thrive into modern facilities you see today.

Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes started as the Diplocks Cottages which were built in 1936 as a memorial to Caleb Diplock, a wealthy Polegate resident and landowner. They were for the poor and needy living within three miles of the Parish Church. In 1945 his distant relatives succeeded in contesting his will and the Cottages were put up for sale.
The role of our trustees is to take responsibility for controlling the management and administration of the charity. Through regular board meetings and visits, the trustees make decisions and work together to ensure Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes delivers the excellent levels of care expected by the board and our residents.
The generous support of the Bernhard Baron Trust has enabled us to shape the Barnard Baron Cottage Homes you see today. In 1895 he came to England with a greatly refined machine and established the BaronCigarette Machine Company in London. Later he joined the Carreras tobacco company as a director, working from an old Victorian shop in Wardour Street, where he set about buildingCarreras into the international company it became.

Sadly, my mother died in December, 2014. Our friend, a resident here, was deeply saddened by this and was very supportive to me in my grief. I clearly understood through my direct communication with her, that
