The unique Watercress Lodges and Campsite is a fantastic self-catering holiday retreat, overlooking the South Downs, situated only 3 miles from New Alresford. Really enjoyed our stay at Watercress Lodges. Our first holiday in UK for a while (normally aim overseas). Joanne and her team were always available, very friendly and very helpful.
The lodge itself was lively, very clean, great layout and comfortable. The location, 50m or so from a working steam railway was lovely. Our ride on the train was fun and the trains gave a lot of character to the area. We also enjoyed being able to wander up the lane to go on our own little safari to see deer, hares, rabbits, foxes and owls.

Peaceful stay in a lovely location. If you love steam, getting away from the stresses of every day life then this location is ideal for you. The lodges are set beside Ropley station on the Watercress line. They are light and airy, clean and well appointed. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. Its like stepping back in time to the age of steam.

Fantastic clean and scenic site with decent facilities. Lodges are brilliantly located so that you can watch the steam trains coming and going from Ropley station. The station is so close to the site that it's practically on it and is beautiful to wander around. An amazing place to bring our kids (2 yr old daughter and 6yr old son) and is their favourite place ever. This is our 3rd visit to Watercress Lodges and my only concern is that when the kids get older they may no longer want to come here. Having said that, I'm 43 and I love it, so I don't think that will ever be a barrier! Credit to Hannah

Great campsite with all the facilities you would need. Very tidy and clean as well. Only thing was that person doing the gardening was cutting the grass till 7:45 in the evening which wasn't thst helpful when trying to get little ones to sleep!
Overall though a great camping experience and extra bonus of the watercress line so close is great. Daughter loved watching the trains go by and get ready in the morning.

It is surrounded by beautiful countryside offering a wide choice of wildlife and steam trains are a few seconds walking distance from the site (The Watercress Line). It is also not far from many places of other interest like the old capital of England Winchester, Winchester Planetarium, Southampton, etc and has the privilege of being within easy commuting distance of the South's National parks. Also easy distance of public transport for London with both Winchester and Alton train stations within easy drive distance.
