For those who wish to work on their personal development, explore mindfulness or be part of a support group. Taking the first step towards therapy and finding a counsellor can feel rather daunting.

If you feel depressed, lonely, unhappy, anxious or perhaps are going through relationship issues, talking to a person who doesn't know you can be a freeing. Sitting down with someone who can create a safe space to explore your emotions and thoughts without judgement and aid you on your journey can be a truly valuable experience.

Counselling is a process and finding a counsellor that you feel comfortable with can be a daunting task. Therefore, allow me to briefly introduce myself! My name is Barbora and I'm the founder of Shift Counselling. I am a qualified Counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the York St John University and a Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology from the University of Worcester.
Perhaps you have had an experience with counselling or perhaps you've never talked to a counsellor before, I thought it would be beneficial to briefly explain what is counselling and what you can expect in the sessions. The term can mean different things to different people, but in general, it is a collaborative process people seek when they want to change something in their lives, or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth.
There are many benefits to working in a therapeutic relationship with a professional counsellor on an individual basis. It can be a relief to tell someone who is impartial about difficulties you've been struggling with on your own. Perhaps you have a longstanding concern, are encountering new difficulties, or simply have a sense that something isn't right or you don't feel yourself anymore.
Relationships can be complicated and even the happiest ones face their own challenges. Couples counselling is a safe space in which you and your partner can discuss issues that, when handled by yourselves, can easily descend into misunderstanding or resentment. Often when we feel that we've not been heard by our partner we can become less likely to want to hear them out in turn.
Nowadays, many people are going through the motions every day rather than enjoying their life, maybe due to stress, pain, lack of self-esteem or other reasons. I have put together workshops to help people develop and improve strategies to help them cope with their respective challenges. In my workshops I teach about mindfulness as well as other healthy strategies.
