Like everyone, we've paused for thought, taken time to reflect and take stock, tidied away unfinished tasks, made plans for current and future works, and dreamed up new ideas. Sadly we had to postpone two major projects in the past year but we'll be back to share these - and more - as soon as we can.
COMPANY CARPI is a contemporary dance, dance theatre and live music venture created by dancer and choreographer BETTINA CARPI and composer and producer GARY LLOYD. Whilst we have worked together for many years the company was launched to coincide with our first true and full-scale co-production, a dance theatre adaptation of the prose poem THE MIRROR OF LOVE by the highly celebrated author and comic book creator ALAN MOORE.

To reach audiences that are not necessarily familiar with contemporary dance, contemporary music, hybrid dance theatre or the work of the outstanding writers with whom we collaborate. Company Carpi combines music & dance with other art forms to present imaginative live performance pieces which address societal topics.
THE MIRROR OF LOVE is the highly emotional history, in the form of prose poetry, of how gay culture has always influenced the mainstream, beginning with life first appearing on our planet and ending with the shameful introduction of Clause 28 by the British Conservative government in 1988. ALAN MOORE has supported, endorsed and encouraged our production and we offer him our most heartfelt gratitude and respect.
The festival director CLARK RUNDELL, renowned conductor and Head of Conducting Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, chaired the post-performance chat with the company and including our very special guest Brian Catling himself. Brian said of the performances that we had "captured the resonance of the poetry in drumming" and that the choreography reminded him of "precise imagery which inspired some of the poems in the first place".
Dotter Of Her Father's Eyes is a twin biographical narrative about father-daughter relationships. In one thread we follow the lives of James Joyce and his daughter Lucia who became passionate about the burgeoning expressive art form of contemporary dance whilst the Joyce family were living in Paris.
