The prospect of being a first-time buyer is both daunting and overwhelming. As it is probably one of the largest financial transactions you are ever likely to make, it is important that it is done with clarity. Our aim is to provide expert and friendly mortgage advice, whilst guiding you through the transaction from start to finish, so that you understand exactly what the process entails and how much it will cost.
The Government will lend you 20% (on a purchase of up to 600k) if you can provide 5%, under the Help to buy "equity loan scheme." Crucially this allows buyers to get rates based on 75% loan to value rather than higher rates at 95%. After 5 years interest will be charged at 1.75% of the original equity value (rising by the Retail price index plus 1%).
Remortgaging is the process of switching your existing mortgage to another lender, usually to lower the amount you're paying on your mortgage or to borrow more to pay for home improvements. You are not obliged to stick with your original lender for the full mortgage term, and you can move to another lender at any time to get a lower interest rate, you don't have to be buying a new home.
