Promoting Autonomy & Change
It has been a tough time for those wanting face to face therapy sessions but unable to do so due to the restrictions. Your therapist will advise both day and time for your session. Your therapist will also advise of any precautions you need to take when coming in to the office. PAC is a registered charity based in Carlisle, Cumbria that provides free counselling and therapy for children and young people.

Sessions can be either talking therapy or non-verbal therapy. We offer psychodynamic therapy in art, drama, dance/movement and equine therapy. We also offer online therapy, and where appropriate, group therapy sessions. The sessions are confidential and held weekly at PAC's offices in Carlisle city centre and the amount of therapy sessions will vary based on the client's needs.
Services
Play Therapy helps children understand muddled feelings and upsetting events that they haven't had the chance to sort out properly. Rather than having to explain what is troubling them, as adult therapy usually expects, children use play to communicate at their own level and at their own pace. Play Therapy uses a range of creative tools to engage with children including arts & crafts, puppets, sand tray, role play, musical instruments and clay.
At PAC all of our counselling and therapy sessions are held in private working with the same therapist every week. We understand that everyone is an individual and has different needs so we will do things in your session that you find useful. Sessions will continue until you decide you no longer need them and this can be anything from 6 weeks to more than a year.
No, if a child is requesting therapy the most supportive and beneficial thing you can do for them is to facilitate this. Sometimes we can all benefit from support and it can be difficult to speak to those we live with or our closest friends. It can be incredibly comforting, at any age, to have a place to bring worries, thoughts and feelings and leave them with someone who is not otherwise connected with your life.
If you're a professional working with a young person who lives in Cumbria you can refer to PAC free of charge. To request a copy of our referral form please contact us using the contact form on this site or call us on 01228 533874. After we receive your referral form we will confirm that the young person is on the waiting list.
PAC relies on donations from a variety of sources to enable us to continue to provide counselling and therapy free of charge to any young person in Cumbria who is experiencing emotional distress or mental health difficulties. Any donation great or small will help to make a huge difference to the lives of young people in Cumbria.
