James Booth was founded in the early 1900's, as coal merchants to the people of Bolton. This was a time when virtually every house had a chimney, and burning coal was the best method of creating heat in the home. Using a horse and cart, James Booth would deliver hundredweight sacks from his stable (where he founded the company) to customers around the local area.

James Booth (Bolton) Limited is a prime mover of rock salt for the de-icing business for Compass Minerals (formerly known as Salt Union) and is entrusted with delivering salt to depots across the UK. We are recognised merchants both to industry and to the general public. The salt we provide is of the highest quality and can be supplied in any quantity from a single 25kg bag up to and including full artic loads.
James Booth extract the finest quality brown and blue shale, sandstone, fill material and rockery stone from our site in Harwood. Blue shale is used in the manufacture of bricks and our customers include Weinerberger, Ibstock Building Products and Hanson's. Our stone fill material is employed in a wide variety of different engineering and construction projects.
James Booth (Bolton) Ltd operates a fleet of articulated 44 tonne Globetrotter tippers, comprising of Volvo tractor units together with STAS, Frauhauf and Weightlifter aggregate trailers, all maintained to the highest standard. We have our own well equipped and fully stocked maintenance and support vehicles to ensure our fleet remains on the road.

UTTERLY WRECKLESS AND DANGEROUS DRIVERS! Nearly totaled in my van today at the chequerbent roundabout Westhoughton approximately 15.30pm. All because he couldn't force me into the next lane of incoming traffic. Then decided to blast his horn profusely in a public area to express his upset. Should be reprimanded the absolute clown. Why are these drivers such a scourge to our roads. Should have their license removed. Completely lawless! One day they will be the making of a serious accident.
