I just wanted to say thank you very much! I have hardly any foot pain now and its invariably caused by not wearing the innersoles. I do literally have much more of a spring in my step and am far more active as a result - the future health benefits of that are immeasurable so I will certainly seek the ongoing advice of podiatrists in the future.
An ingrown toenail is when the side of a nail causes an irritation to the skin. This can create an open wound, prone to infection. The body treats the nail as a foreign object and tries to push it out creating lots of inflammation, often pain and sometimes pus. Most ingrown toenails can be treated conservatively by cutting out the offending piece of nail.
New skin cells develop deep within the skin and slowly make their way up to the surface, where they are shed naturally. This usually takes about 3-4 weeks. If your feet rub in your shoes, through pressure or friction, these cells can compact into layers of hardened skin. This can occur where the joints are protruding, if you walk in a certain way or if your footwear is badly fitted.
If your toenail does not improve, yourpodiatrist may recommend that part or all of your toenail is surgically removed. Partial nail avulsion, where part of your toenail is removed, is the most common surgical procedure for treating ingrown toenails. It is about 98% effective. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic (painkilling medication), which is injected into the base of your toe.
