The Anglo Japanese Ju-jutsu and Martial Arts Association was started in 1901 by Sadakazu Uyenishi. He was a Japanese master who was invited to England to join Yukio Otani who had arrived the previous year at the invite of Mr Barton Wright, who himself spent some time in Japan studying Ju-Jutsu. Both men toured the music halls taking on all comer's in five minute matches for fifty pounds, a huge sum of money at that time.
Mr Uyenishi never lost a bout! He opened his own Dojo (training way hall) in 31 Golden Square, London after both he and Yukio Otani left Mr Barton Wright, in 1902. Thus the Anglo Japanese is the oldest Judo and Martial Arts Association in the UK. As a matter of interest Mr Uyenishi (known as Raku) had a training partner Mr Omo Maeda who after a short time in the UK embarked for Brazil where he started the Gracie School.

The Kangami Biraki course is held each year to signify the beginning of the new year and gives everyone the chance to show their support to our organisation whilst at the same time being able to train with the highest grades within the organisation. Well this year we are not going to be undone and will be running the course online with some of our most Senior instructors teaching.

The reason we started here was the high regard others viewed them in, the reason we stayed was the inclusive family feel to the club. My kids and I ended up as regulars and we've been going here for judo, jitsu and more recently karate over the last 8 years. It's a fantastic club, whose instructors do their utmost to help and improve their members martial arts skills and more importantly, have fun!

The focus of the club is collecting your monies, not the results. Joining fee, monthly premiums, cost for gradings and belts - not worth it. My kids has attended Bu'sen for a year, and I have an impression the club that is led by a poor management and a huge lack of dedication is only trying to survive for the sake of income.

Our family has been part of the Busen club for 8 years. It is a wonderful, family run business. The instructors are best in class and fantastic with kids. They offer judo and karate for kids - great for fitness and super for discipline! I would highly recommend locals visiting and trialling via a free trial class.
