Shorinji Kempo is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai Budo) with strong Chinese roots. Renowned as a highly practical system of self defence. Shorinji Kempo was founded in 1947 by grand master Doshin So and first introduced to the UK in 1974 by Sensei Mizuno, chief instructor and founder of the British Shorinji Kempo Federation.

We have dojos in the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Based on the use of physical principles and weak points (kyusho) rather than brute strength.

I tried Shorinji Kempo in South Wimbledon not knowing anything about it. The same evening I decided to joined the club. It is a great way to keep fit, learn new skills, meet new people, gain confidence with self defence techniques. The teachers are very knowledgeable, helpful and inspiring, the atmosphere -friendly and welcoming.
I wish I discovered it earlier!

A great sport, and an excellent place to learn it!
Shorinji Kempo is a Japanese martial arts that—while perhaps less well known than Karate, Judo and some others—is highly effective (no matter what your size and strength is) and very ethical at the same time. It blends thrusts and kicks with grappling techniques, foot movement, controlled falls etc. Each class combines a solid workout (prepare to sweat!) with a mix of those techniques, as well as elements of the philosophy and mindfulness.
The South Wimbledon dojo is a true gem for Shorinji Kempo. Sensei Paul and his team do an amazing job

The Dojo is very welcoming to beginners for all ages. It is a great place to come along with your family and friends. Sensei Paul is a very warm and attentive instructor and teaches authentic Japanese budo technique and spirit. My family and I are very happy to come every week to learn Shorinji Kempo.

I hadn't heard of Shorinji Kempo before but i was very impressed when gave it a try! It's a martial art for everyone. Jujitsu, judo and Aikido grappling balanced with western boxing, kickboxing and karate punches, kicks and striking. It's seems like an old school mixed martial art but with sound philosophy, meditation and Shiatsu! Any one can learn as it's very inclusive and everyone trains to their own level. Senseis Paul, Sanjay and Guy are very knowledgeable and helpful. a great way to get fit, make friends and learn self-defence.I highly rate this Dojo!

Friendly teaching in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere with a wide range of levels - always the sign of a flourishing dojo. Sensei Paul is a patient teacher and adapts to the needs of younger martial artists and older and returning martial artists alike. Give it a whirl - you know you want to!
