Purchasing a property is one of the biggest investments many of us will make during our lives. It makes sense that before making such an important decision advice is taken from a specialist who understands buildings such as a building surveyor. A building survey is an extensive investigation of the construction and condition of a building.
The Party Wall etc Act 1996 gives building owners rights to do work to the party wall (shared wall) and when excavating or building close to the boundary line. The Act sets out the procedure that needs to be undertaken before work starts. The main obligations are to tell the neighbour that the work is to be done and to repair any damage that might be caused by the work.
