Sanjo Karate
Learning Shotokan Karate at Sanjo Karate offers opportunities and teaches values that society has lost throughout the years. We focus on discipline as well as respect for others and ourselves. We offer traditional Japanese karate through modern training methods to men, women and children in a safe controlled environment.

Sanjo Karate are proud to be part of Hombu Dojo International and regularly have visiting Senior Instructors at Sanjo as well as special training and social events. Sanjo Karate classes are taught by fully insured, FEKO accredited and DBS clear husband and wife team John & Sandra Carr. Experienced in working with all age groups and levels of ability whilst achieving high standards of attention and behaviour in class.
Services
Sanjo is an amalgamation of its Sensei's, Sandra and John Carr as well as being a small city in Japan, famous for its rich green forests, where Japan's longest river, (the Shinano River) runs across and is only 2 hours travel from Tokyo.

It's well known that a common interest brings families closer together and unlike many other sports or activities, karate enables Mum and/or Dad to get involved with the kids, rather than just to watch from the sidelines.Karate is an unique activity that puts all ages on the same level whether you are 4 or 84 years old!
At Sanjo Karate, we run family friendly Shotokan Karate classes where both parents and children have the opportunity to train together several times per week. Lessons are priced at 4 per person per lesson, payable in cash before each training session commences. Sanjo Karate holds comprehensive insurance as well as public and professional indemnity insurance.
We often count drills in Japanese, don't worry we don't expect these to be learned overnight. Most of the learning will be picked up in class. However at Sanjo Karate, we sometimes may give a student some homework (like any extra-curricular activity/club) but this will be to practice a stance, go-over a kick etc.
Make sure you bring all your required training equipment to every class; students who do not have all their safety gear will not be allowed to participate in kumite. PARENTS: We thank you for helping us to enforce these rules with your child(ren) both in class and at home as it is for their safety.
Accredited to Gichin Funakoshi, the Shotokan Karate dojo kun serves as a set of five guiding principles, often recited at the end of each training session in most styles, intended to frame the practice within an ethical context. Placing loyalty into our lives gives us comfort and strength in our beliefs and responsibilities to all mankind.

My little girl started when she was 4 . She really enjoy the company and gives her confidence every time when she is there doing the course. She is now counting in Japanese up to 10 (or Chinese don't know the difference?) But I could recommend to people to start to learn few tactics how to get your self moving and very motivating . Good job wish you well guys πŸ˜πŸ€—πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜I didn't think that 4 year can be as much included in the group as they both sensei did ,they make sure she is on with the group . Thank you for that. They take care of her while she is on the go. Also teach you discipline

Both John and Sandra have been amazing at welcoming us and in training our two children. We have only recently joined and would have to say so far have been amazing at making the kids feel included and challenged with each session. The kids have really taken to his teaching style and have progressed very quickly which they are really stoked about. Casual sessions and very informative of what’s happening within the club.
