The Verandah House
Verandah House is an historic grade II listed building, located in the centre of Stowmarket, and is a fine example of a Georgian gentlemans residence. Built originally around 1700, a cottage and stables were added to the original house in 1729. Later in the mid 1800s the main house and cottage were joined together with the addition of a substantial Victorian extension, to provide the charming house we now enjoy today.

Our house is less than 100m from the Regal Theatre, and little more than a five minute stroll from the Market Place, yet Verandah House is surprisingly quiet and peaceful within its tranquil walled garden. Please take a look around our site and see what Verandah House offers. If you have any questions or queries, or would like to make a booking, please go to the "Contact Us" page and get in touch.
Services
Verandah House is family owned and run, providing a warm, comfortable and friendly welcome. Gianfranco (Franco for short) is Italian! He does the cooking, so your full Suffolk Breakfast is done with the typical Italian flare! Just see the Trip Advisor comments on the excellent breakfast he prepares.
The breakfast menu at Verandah House caters for all tastes, including special diets. Whether you choose a continental breakfast or if you wish to start the day with a full Suffolk English Breakfast, your choice will be freshly prepared and cooked to order - just as you like it! Before you order any drinks or food, Please speak to Suzanne or Gianfranco regarding any food allergies / intolerences you may have.
We understand that Verandah House was the home of the Prentice family until sometime after the Second World War. The Prentice family had extensive milling and industrial connections with the area. The Prentice and Munton families joined forces in the agricultural and chemical supply industries and eventually became Fisons Agricultural with various spin off companies which became world famous in their own right.
Bookings can be made either by phone, fax or email from our website. The website clearly shows details of the property and the surrounding area and directions on how to arrive. There is a car park to the rear of the property for up to 6 cars. Guests that have walking difficulties can be dropped at the front door to download their cases.
Take the slip road off to Stowmarket. At the roundabout go 2nd left. Pass the garage on the left and at the next roundabout take 1st left, continue to next roundabout and take 2nd left(Gipping Way) and continue to the traffic lights (VW showroom on far left corner). Go straight across and take the second turning on the right - Hollingsworth Road.

Horrible experience. Expensive for what you get and disgusting cleanliness. There was hair in my food and looked like there were pee stains in the bed and covers. No heating during the cold winters and water looked brownish yellow. Staff were so disrespectful and even had to call the police for them taking one of or luggage since we checkout 3 minutes after 12. Tons of random extra charges at the end which I didn’t even receive. Not coming back in a jiffy and so shouldn’t you!

It was our first time staying at The Verandah House. We booked two nights and we had the most pleasurable and enjoyable stay. Franco and Suzanne were wonderful hosts. The room was spacious and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was brilliant value for money especially the sausages and the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. .Brilliant experience overall. We will definitely be going back.

I stayed with Suzanne and Gianfranco for a night. Never been in this part of the country and being used to nice hotels I didn't know what to expect form a family business far away from London.
It was the most enjoyable experience I have ever had. I felt more than the best served customer, better than any of the 5* I stayed in, but I was made to feel being home. Amazing breakfast, amazing company. I would heartily recommend it to everyone as the welcome is beyond the best service.
Thank you Suzanne and Gianfranco

Have stayed 4 times over the past year. Excellent place to stay. Always a warm greeting. Caters briliantly for dietary needs. Best mushrooms on toast you will eat. Well positioned for access to the town and local area. Safe parking there too.

Lovely family run bed and breakfast set within an old period styled house dating back to 1700s. Your well looked after from start to finish and it's well located to the town and other local tourist attractions. I'd recommend it and Joe booked a second time already!😆

Spent one night at this b&b, which is close to town centre. The 2 proprietors were charming and attentive. The room was lovely and quite large; the double bed had 2 single mattresses plus there was an additional single bed, plus en suite bathroom. Traditional decor and furniture, not modern. Cooked breakfast is included which was OK but nothing spectacular. We would return if the need arose.

Had a lovely overnight stay. Room was excellent: spacious, clean, comfy bed and great en-suite. Breakfast in the morning was also wonderful. Very convenient for the centre of Stowmarket which is just a 5 minute walk away which was handy as I had to pop out to get some cash as they don't accept any card payments! Owners made us most welcome. We would have liked to stay longer.
