Wheldons is an established wholesale nursery producing quality stock for landscaping and APPOINTMENT ONLY retail sales. Since 1986 we have been growing in size and reputation to become one of East Yorkshire's leading producers of quality nursery stock. The main site is 7 acres of which 2 acres is modern glass producing a wide range of evergreen shrubs as well as 4 acres of shade and outdoor beds.
In addition we have over 50 acres of field grown tree production with sizes from whips to mature specimens. Wheldons have been the trusted supplier for many local and national landscaping projects ranging from civic schemes to golf courses and holiday parks. Started in 1985 the goal was to establish Wheldons as a wholesale nursery supplying plants to the trade and local landscapers. Today Wheldons produces hardy shrubs in pot sizes ranging from 2ltr to 20ltr for a wide range of situations - ground cover plants, mid border, back border, hedging and screening.
All our plants are grown with quality in mind - evergreens which offer all year round colour/screening and ground covers for low maintenance. With all container grown plants the maturity of the stock is determined a lot by the pot size. Most garden centre plants are grown in 2 and 3 litre pots but here at Wheldons we produce stock in 2,3,5,7,10 and 20 litre pots giving a much larger range of plant size.
Adding trees to the established shrubs can create a " been there for years look " and takes a lot of the waiting out of gardening projects. Our tree production comes in two forms - bare root trees from Nov till March and container grown for all year round planting. The size range is from 2m to 5m high in many varieties giving instant structure to planting schemes.
It can be a long process waiting for hedges to grow so many customers have made the comment I cannot wait that long. I want a hedge now! It is no surprise therefore that we are finding more and more demand for mature hedging. As expected evergreens are the most popular. With this in mind we stock 1-5m Common Laurel, 1-5m Portuguese Laurel and 2m Leylandii which we have found to be the most popular choices.
To offer all year round planting we grow trees in containers with established root systems. Most garden centres only offer small 2m trees so if you are looking for larger we are where you need to be. The size and variety of our range is extensive from small 2m trees to established 5m trees giving a choice to complement most schemes.
