Great space and friendly staff but ordering food off their menu is a nightmare... I've had similar experiences at other small batch locations, they haven't got their act together with their hot food. Yesterday I ordered waffles (kid's portion) and toast, it took over 20 minutes and I had to ask for my food. Both then arrived cold but undercooked, how can you get toast wrong?! I also had to ask for the additional condiments I'd paid for.

Staff are in no rush to serve anyone. Perhaps if they were they could clean the tables. How was my poached eggs ready before my coffe and why was one egg cooked solid and the other runny?

I visited this place with a group of friends last weekend and the experience was so bad that I had to write this review, something I rarely do.
Firstly we had to wait 20 mins for coffee, which is absurd. Not sure if I approve of this. My mate ordered poached eggs and "wild" mushrooms which cost him 14 pounds. At such a high price you would hope that the quality was excellent. His food came out all cold.
The rest of us had to wait at least another 15 minutes for our English breakfasts and when they arrived our Friend, had finished his, amazingly.
Once our English breakfasts arrived our waiter

The people were really nice and the food tasted good. They also give medium/large portions so if you want a restaurant that can fill you up then this is the one. However i don't believe in giving 5 stars.

Hi, i am sad to report that i was extremely disappointed today have travelled from Worthing to Portslade to buy a bag of beans I arrived at 1.50 (knowing you close at 2.00 pm) to be told you were closed when it clearly states on your website that you close at 2. My husband asked if he could still buy some beans and was abruptly told 'no'! We are loyal small batch bean and coffee buyers and I even have a weekly subscription with you. This was really poor customer service

I use the Worthing coffee shop often with my family and friends but this is the second time a loo has been out of order due to a significant amount of faeces there. This is the Portland road shop in Worthing. The toilet was absolutely horrific today. I went in, ordered a drink and needed to change my 15 week old baby. I asked and they said yes in… the disabled loo but don’t use the loo in there. I walked up to the door and it said out of ordered so I thought ok, I’m just using the changing table. Went in and the stench hit me. Pulled down the table and glanced at the loo. OMG

Having visited most of the coffee shops in Brighton and Hove over the years, I have to say that my go-to daily favourite is Small Batch. Coffee is excellent and the staff are really welcoming and friendly. @wilbury

Friendly service, but the coffee leaves much to be desired. After two attempts, the barista got a syphon brew going for me...sort of. Very bitter.

I got a bag of beans to go which are supposedly of Geisha varietal. Again, very bitter with none of the delicate aromatics one would expect. If this is Geisha, what the hell did you do to it?

There was a pretty long line on Saturday that took a while, but the coffee was worth it. The cappuccino was very good and creamy.

One of the best that I've had in the uk.

I don't drink coffee but the hot chocolate here is some of the best I've had, high quality, thick, rich and tastes as much as it's worth. This place always had a queue when I visited and I know why.

One of my favourite places to have coffee, as I believe here it is as good as you can get! The place is lovely (I personally love the lighting) and there is a discrete selection of food and pastries which is never a bad thing! The only thing I probably dislike are the high, backrest-less chairs so I wouldn't go there if I needed to work a whole afternoon in those chairs.

The coffee from here is amazing. You literally cannot fault anything about the company's product. It has no bitterness to it, it's cooked perfectly and I have no idea what they're doing to make it so smooth and just the right temperature but I cannot stop going there. I can't afford to but it's really, really hard to not go there.

The one criticism I have is that the customer service can be pretty mediocre. You can end up waiting way longer than necessary for your coffee because the staff are all joking around with each other.

Small Batch has a very cute location and friendly staff. They make a fantastic flat white, however the Americano was the weakest I've ever had. It would be nice if they would branch out and offer some more food options.

This is a spacious, relaxed coffee shop with a delicious and pretty unique menu. The iced flat white, which blends espresso and coffee gelato, is a real treat, but the teas are also delicious and come in cute double-layered mugs. There's plenty of seating, and drinks are served to your table if you sit in.

As always, lovely coffee served well, warm and looks beautiful. As it's always so busy, expect a little wait at some times and don't expect too much of a sunny spot in their outdoor seating! Really love Small Batch coffee, forget the mainstream chains!! PLEASE!

Small Batch = Big Win.

After surviving some truly terrible hotel coffee, I was seriously jonesing for some good stuff. Enter Small Batch, which more than did the trick.

As I posted up here for several hours in meetings -- I enjoyed a variety of items. Flat white, latte, Americano, Green tea. All exquisite, well crafted, and served with a smile.

The loos are VERY clean and orderly, there is a lot of nice seating and the cafe is very stylish without being ridiculous. Comfortable and sleek. Woods and dark irons, smart folks behind the barrista bar and small sandwich and cake offerings.

Awesome coffees! I usually go here to buy my beans for use at home, and they make great gifts also. The food seems a little over priced for the small portions, but it's the drinks that you go to Small Batch for really, anyways.

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's ok coffee and it's a great place to people watch. I want to love an anti-Starbucks place like this.

But I'm more irked at the staff. They seem to be more interested in playing the stereo at ear shattering levels and yapping to each other instead of the customer's comfort. The tables are often dirty and cramped.

I've just been watching one of the baristas chat without taking a breath for 5 minutes instead of making coffee, while I sit without. I've twice had to ask them to turn the stereo down because I couldn't

I like stopping here on the way to the library. Always a hip crowd mixed with older ones and families. Usually more than one foreign language being spoken outside (where the smokers sit). I don't know how they do it, but the wait staff finds you when your coffee is ready. I have to exercise great restraint when I am there, as I would love to pocket a set of the cups and saucers (espresso size & cappuccino size)! Food is overpriced but convenient. I always keep the loyalty card on hand and save up for a free coffee!

As a Canadian coffee addict, I appreciate Small Batch for their ultra-strong, lovingly-brewed espresso. It's a bright space with lots of seating, and the staff seem friendly and accepting as far as hipster coffee shops go.
