Services
We're van drivers too - and our expert patrols have the right tools and technology to get you back on the road. Unlike others, we won't make you upgrade to be covered at home or registered business address. We'll rescue you on your driveway or on the road as standard. And we'll always try to fix you on the spot, rather than towing you straight to a garage.
Having breakdown cover means help is at hand 24/7 if your vehicle breaks down. While the AA only include roadside assistance as standard, we give you roadside and home rescue, garage support and alternative transport. And with our new 18 and 24 month plans, you can save up to 1/3 too.* Breakdown cover is there to help if your vehicle breaks down in the UK.
Electric car breakdown cover gets you back up and running if you break down. With the RAC, there's no need to pay extra - we cover electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars, as well as petrol and diesel vehicles. And you can relax knowing we're number one for electric car breakdown cover^, as we do more than anyone else to keep you on the road.
Price for 1 day cover for up to 9 people travelling in a vehicle up to 1 year old in Zone 1. Single trip European breakdown cover means your vehicle is covered for a one-off trip to Europe. You can choose cover for just one day, a two-week holiday, or any trip lasting up to 180 days. And if your vehicle breaks down while you're away, you can be fixed at the roadside or towed to the nearest garage.
Checking what's included as standard is a good place to start when choosing breakdown cover. Some providers include more than others with their entry-level cover. For example, the RAC includes roadside and home rescue, garage support and alternative transport, even with our entry-level cover. So you can relax knowing you're getting a complete breakdown service as standard.

My daughter who is a carer was left stranded for almost 12 hours, she was left in a very vulnerable position and unable to go and help the vulnerable people she supports. Everytime the RAC was called she , her boss and her mother were told someone would be with her within the hour that never happened. Because of the RAC she has also lost a days pay.

Utterly appalling. Lone female, 3 hours and counting, broken down on double yellows barely past a junction on a busy urban road. I'd estimate 200+ near misses in that time and that's not an exaggeration. Response from the call centre is that I can't be assigned higher priority as I'm not on a motorway or other 70mph road.

Appalling service disabled husband broke down in motorbility car, meant to have priority response as on insulin and meds. Waited hours with no call back in an area that had limited time of 3 hours so ended up with a fine to boot. Freezing cold and a dead battery. When help finally arrived knew nothing about hybrid cars caused more damage trying to jump start it and was left to limp car home that went into black outs 3 times on motorway. Can't even provide info showing breakdown so can rectify fine, through no fault of our own. Been waiting a month nearly now for proof of breakdown. Just a simple

Very disappointing. Broke down on a Saturday, van recovered from Yorkshire to Devon, no problem. Super courteous patrol man. All good so far. It was non-urgent so van travelled via third party recovery agents ending up at Exeter on the Monday. Tuesday the VW van centre ask whether I want the damage repaired to the 'radiator carrier' as well, which was apparently broken. I said that unless it was dangerous or about to fall off not to worry. Garage carried out repair that caused the breakdown (dual mass flywheel) and I collected van. Put van on ramp to check this otherwise unknown damage and to my

The RAC are happy to leave you on the side of a busy dual carriageway for 5 hours with a baby. Absolutely disgusting service. No one cares if you have enough supplies to keep your baby fed for this crazy length of time. After writing a complaint I've still not had a response and its been over 20days it says I'll get a response by.

Shambolic after 20 years I am cancelling my membership. Single female left by herself on quiet road and RAC. Phoned after more than 2.5 hours wait and told that it would be another 50 minutes. They hung up when I said I would try and limp home. Received message after I got home to say that they MAY send out a partner company. Very, very unimpressed!

They don't care in the slightest about getting you home or wherever you need to be.. After an 8 hour wait (was told it would be 3 hours originally) got taken to a garage where they can't get my car going again because they don't have the parts. "Not my problem" says the RAC man and off he goes. That's it..! Stranded in a strange town with no way to get home. Some 'breakdown service'!
Never, ever use the RAC.
Never, ever use the RAC.

If you want to be left on the roadside for 8hrs with no communication then RAC wins hands down.
I brokedown at 3pm.
A guy turned up after 5hrs to check my vehicle (lovely guy) found the problem which could not be fixed so requested recovery.
10pm I'm told (after me calling them) I should have been picked up.
11pm I call again to be told its another 30mins because the request was put in at 10pm.
Battery now dead.
No hazard lights. On a dark, fast country road by a dual carriage way slip road.
Not a bloody clue.
I'm definitely cancelling my cover.

Admittedly it was my mistake to put petrol in my diesel car 🤦♂️. But hey mistakes happen and this is why amongst other situations we pay monthly subscriptions for a service that will help you when needed. Not this time, I get told I'll be charged £250 to use a service I already pay £25 a month to use. Told them to stuff it and found another company called "THE FUEL DOCTOR" who drove from an hour and a half away from my location and over a £100 less. Nothing against the RAC mechanics, they do a great job when they get to you. When you speak to someone from their call centre you can
