Longlands at Cartmel appeals to all from young to old, families to couples. It is a superb place to travel round the Lakes but also has much to offer right on your doorstep. Hidden by the old house lies a secluded courtyard where buildings that were once filled with the bustling activity of dairymaids, housekeepers and gardeners, have now been transformed into peaceful holiday cottages.
The walled kitchen garden is a perfect place if you want to do absolutely nothing whilst on holiday than relax on a deck chair. Longlands is set in 5 acres of grounds in the middle of stunning Parkland. The walled garden has been restored over the last 15 years as both a romantic ornamental garden and a highly productive vegetable and fruit garden.
Whether it's a wedding/anniversary, a special birthday or just a romantic weekend for two, Longlands at Cartmel is the perfect place to celebrate. The hay barn on one side of the courtyard at the back of the main house has been restored to provide a unique venue for up to 120 people. With stunning views across to Hampsfell it offers a simple yet stunning venue for a variety of uses.
To many people, Cartmel is best known for its race course, just a few yards from the village square where meetings are held in May, July and August (also home to the village cricket team). Cartmel, famous for it's Priory, has changed little over the centuries and offers all the amenities of village life with a post office, grocer and several gift shops.

We had the Milk Maids Parlour for 5 nights. Very quiet location however I'm not sure that there were many other couples / families in the adjoining properties which would probably affect the ambiance.
Tricky to locate gateway when we first arrived and dangerous to leave gateway when out to the shops / walking etc. I thoroughly recommend a mirror positioned so as to allow for the safer exit onto what is a quiet road used by fast drivers!
I would imagine the stairs in our property to be a challenge to anyone not totally able bodied and the en suite is 'cosy' but more than usable.
Covid meant that
