This depends on the number of teeth missing and on where they are in the mouth. The condition of the other teeth also affects the decision. There are two main ways to replace the missing teeth. The first is with a removable false tooth or teeth - a partial denture. The second is with a fixed bridge.

Periodontal (gum) disease is still by far and away the biggest single cause of tooth loss in adult patients. In the past the progress of this disease was considered inevitable and the only treatment available was extraction of the affected teeth and the provision of dentures.
Happily today this is no longer the case and with early detection coupled with regular treatment we are seeing an increasingly large percentage of patients preserving a full natural dentition into their seventies and beyond. In order that this major dental problem is adequately addressed we employ dental hygienists and dental therapists whose main role is to support the dentists in the treatment and prevention of gum disease.

Preparation time will vary depending on the condition of the damaged tooth. The tooth will be reshaped, to ensure that once the crown is fitted, it remains the same size and shape as the natural teeth. It may also need to be built up with a filling first. A local anaesthetic is usually given prior to preparation, to avoid any discomfort.

Fabulous dental surgery. My 5 year old daughter recently attended for a filling. She was given an explanation of what was going to happen and a demonstration of the tools before they were used and came away from her appointment telling me how much she loved it and how she is no longer nervous of the dentist. Both Janette and Kayleigh were amazing and I am thankful for how easy and amazing they have made my daughters dental experience.
