I am a person of two parts. I have my love of nature and spiritual beliefs which is balanced by my scientific rational side and my passion for learning about neuroscience and traumatology, both of which I bring into my psychotherapy practice. I am especially interested in Peter Levine's work and Stephen Porges Polyvagal theory and apply this into my practice.
My love of animals and nature has led me to explore the ways in which I can include the healing spirit of nature in my work as a counsellor and psychotherapist. For issues which are really difficult to put into words we may work with the creative arts, sand tray, mindfulness and sometimes in the outdoors amongst nature itself.

Sandtray therapy is a triadic therapeutic relationship consisting of Counsellor, Client and Sandtray, The sand tray itself becomes an integral part of the therapeutic process; it is a particular size in which the client can see the whole tray in one glance. The tray itself tends to be coloured blue the base represents water, the sides air and the sand within the tray represents the earth.
I can introduce you to techniques to bring yourself right back into the here and now, by learning to listen to and understand your body, how it is feeling, what it is telling you and by using your five senses. The practice of mindfulness is extremely helpful in helping deal with stressful and upsetting events.
The purpose of meditation is to calm the mind, quieten the chatter and enter into a peaceful state. I can help you with simple meditation techniques to practice at home, these could just be sitting quietly amongst nature embracing the sounds and smells, or using music to calm the mind. Anyone can learn to meditate and but it is through continuing practice that a lasting effect can be felt.
The creative arts, like sand tray, appears to work by allowing conscious and unconscious aspects of the psyche to interact. Usually we will begin with a short meditation which allows things to come forward from the unconscious level and onto the medium being used be it masks, paper, clay etc thereby raising awareness and bringing it into the here and now for discussion.
