Smokey Joe's
Smokey Joe's continues a fourth generation of a family-run business dedicated to bringing fabulous food, drinks, entertainment, pop culture and great customer service to Gloucestershire. Great grandma Hilda catered for Afternoon Teas on the lawn at her house in Churchdown in the 1930's. This house was then converted into a caf which my grandparents, Phyllis & Ken, renamed as Smokey Joe's.

They fed and entertained both locals and the American GIs from the nearby airbase during the 40s and 50s and had the first jukebox in the South West to bring some popular music to the mix. They opened a further few cafes in Cheltenham after this until they retired to the Isle of Man in the 60s. In 1981 my parents, Steve & Pat, bought an old printing works in Cheltenham town centre.

Disappointing. Visited the CafΓ© today for my daughters birthday lunch and we were very under whelmed. Food was below expected standard, everything felt very cheap- condiments were supermarket own brand. Not what we expected to find in an American diner. Will not be returning.

We went here for our works Xmas do. A last minute change from buffet to served individual food due to the change in covid circumstances. I have been here before and it's a lovely little American diner. I love the 50s era so I was here with the 50s dress and victory rolls in my hair! We hired a silent disco and had a dance floor to ourselves. There's a bar for drinks. And a gaming area with some retro games machines. We didn't use those but the dancing and disco was fab. Sorry if we were drunk and noisy!

Lovely nostalgia decor (see photos). Lovely coffee and food.
But way too expensive!!!
Coffee x2 + Breakfast burger x2 + hash brown x2 = Β£24.40

Lovely little gem of a restraint. The adult milkshakes are to die for and the atmosphere is amazing. Cute retro diner with good food, you can't ask for more.

Food was great and so was the service, the diner looks amazing with such a cool 60s american aesthetic, so many cool retro things scattered about, there's a small games room with old school arcade machines in it. I'd definitely recommend to anyone!

I've been to lots of restaurants in Cheltenham but hardly any have the charm and personality of Smokey Joe's!
Great food, fantastic drink selection and the staff are super friendly. Been a few times but keep going back. Strongly recommended for all.

Such a retro, cool restaurant. The food is quality... The whole vibe is typical American Diner style (imagine Grease) which I absolutely love! Burgers are fabulous & flavoursome. As is everything else. YUM!!

Good place, retro ambience. They have an arcade at the back. Try unicorn hot chocolate for Instagram pictures. Good milkshakes available. The food is average.
