My approach is known as 'systemic'. This means that I am not a psychologist or a psychiatrist. I do not have a medical background and so I will not be offering anything similar to CBT or analysis. Rather I will be offering you an evidence based approach which will not only provide an effective working method, but will also provide valuable knowledge helping you understand how you became addicted in the first place.
The recovery treatment can be short or long term, depending on the issues involved. Each of your sessions will be purposeful and meaningful. Good counselling involves listening, so I will not only be offering quick fix answers but will first really hear what you are saying. This approach helps you to explore your experience in a new way.

My approach is based upon thirty years of experience and practice. Even though each person, relationship and story is unique there is much more that connects us than separates us. Whatever crisis or motivation brings you into counselling, the resolution of the issues will always lie in one of the three main areas.
Recently I watched a programme on the BBC which had been made from the experiences of one of our most famous footballers, Ian Wright. Although domestic abuse is not my area of expertise there is no doubt in my mind that the trauma of domestic abuse produces lots of. The 'observer' position I want to say something more about one of the key points in this approach.
My advice for anyone taking up this service would be to persevere if at first you don't think this is for you. By the end of our 6 sessions I felt like everything had clicked into place. I really felt like Dave had understood where I was coming from and had very quickly (considering the fairly limited amount of time) managed to get the measure of me and my situation.
I took up the Employer Assistance Programme that my firm offers and after a short interview I was matched with a counsellor - Dave Cooper. After session one I came away thinking that perhaps they hadn't quite matched us right because this man was challenging the things that I was saying about myself and who knows me well enough or better than me to do that!?
The A2R recovery Service has been operational for just a couple of years and yet has helped many people to fully recover from their addictive life style. The latest neuroscience research findings are showing us more and more that the old approaches to addiction counselling are often counter-productive and can lead to a type of 'revolving door' effect.
